This short, graphic type text delivers a moral natured story of a porcupine that can’t seem to find or keep friends due the uniqueness brought forth by the way he and all porcupines were created. The book is filled with colourful illustrations and comic style writing, in addition to informational facts regarding porcupines and the lifestyle they live. “Do You Know Porcupines?” is equipped with bolded words that can be found in the glossary, as well as an index for quick referencing.Classroom Connections: Students ranging in ages from nine to eleven (Junior Division) would find this text most useful as it offers a story line that many children can relate to while engaging their artistic senses with colourful, bright illustrations. Students can expand their word choice by locating the bold words, finding their meanings in the glossary and using them in different sentences to model their understanding of the new words.
