That would be about a 17 gauge. I would not recommend doing this your self especially on any small dog. I purchase the pack to have a vet insert the chips while my 2 cats were out anyways while being fixed. Some people I read about have stuck their animals multiple time to try and get it inserted correctly. I have a horse and give shot often to my horse, but I would not try to do this myself to a small dog or cat.
