Modern Bushido, Samurai Teachings for Modern Times Paperback – January 1, 2012

Of the many books I've read about modern interpretations of the discipline of Bushido, this book in particular has been the most useful. Obata emphasizes the moral reasons why Bushido is an integral philosophy for the purpose of helping people of all walks of life to be better human beings; and to say this work is highly recommended is a severe understatement. If you have any interest in Bushido or samurai culture, you NEED this book.

For practitioners of traditional Japanese (old school) martial arts, this volume provides the philosophical foundation for Budo. Extremely well written. I read a wide range of book subjects with a particular interest in history, and practice law. Based upon the martial arts and philosophy books I have read, I am very impressed with the quality of writing and editing. Moreover, the organization of each chapter is perfect for the subject. Although this is Sensi Obata's original interpretation of various Budo principles, his insight and straight forward approach is enjoyable to read. To some, his philosophy may seem like old school common sense, but the world needs more teachers that emphasize honor, respect, and honesty. Although it is expensive, I believe you will find it worth every penny.I highly recommend this book for practitioners of Kendo, Judo, Aki-Jujitsu, and Aikido.NOTE: JAN. 20, 2014. after reading books like these and going back thro older training it kind of makes me get it a little better when i just glazed thro the first time because of the long hard physical practice sometimes its good to have the mental parts backed up like this to go back over...and comparing these words to some other schools and arts well all i can say its a must have it you truly like real bushido.

All around great reference. Inspiring and informative

I've been reading this book and am almost done. I have found it very inspiring and would recommend it to any martial artist. I believe the lessons in this book could be applied by anybody who would like to bring more discipline to their life.Highly recommend!
