One of the worlds' most popular ukuleles, the Hamano U-320 boasts a list of standard features usually found on much costlier instruments. The entire body and neck are the choicest mahogany and the back is scientifically arched to increase the tone and carrying power. The fingerboard and bridge are of rosewood and the fingerboard has pearloid position dots. The guitar-style tuning machines are gold-plated for an elegant touch and add to the expensive look of this fine ukulele. A clear semi-gloss finish gives a classy, understated look to the U-320 and a sturdy nylon gig bag and instructional DVD are included in the price. All this value packed into the U-320 is yours for a very reasonable price!

greta sound
Very good Uke! For the price what more can you ask for a great sound and look old school pineapple shape. When i first got it I took the strings off and bought another set of black, because it looks cool, and tuned it to play. The sound is a lot better with a good pair of strings, the strings it comes with is also good but not compared to a good set. Just with the shape of the Uke draw a lot of attention because everyone has that old stupid mini guitar look but nothing beats the old school look feel and sound of this shape. I'm in Iraq and Im always out the wire and this Uke comes with me in my truck everywhere. My soldiers always want me to play when we get to our destination. We unload out of the convoy light some real good tasting cigars and play the Uke, what better way to end a nerve racking convoy through Iraq!!!!

Just fine for starting out
My daughter found this on Amazon and asked me to get it for her. We shopped around, read other people's reviews, and decided to get it. We didn't want to spend too much because we were not sure if she would actually play it or if it would be "room decoration" like other things she thought she wanted but didn't use. Upon arrival, we were shocked at how light weight it was and thought it was just a toy and wouldn't function as we had hoped. But, surprise! It works great and she loves it. It does have to be tightened and tuned constantly, but as others have said, that will pass after the strings are stretched. I purchased a digital tuner and she really appreciates that.

Exceptional buy!
I seldom write reviews of any of my purchases, but this inexpensive baritone ukulele is now my favorite, right off. I did have a setup done, and restrung it with Aquila AQ-89 strings. The result is very good intonation up to its 20th fret with warm, impressive projection! Extremely playable. Wow!

Nice ukulele for the price
Bought this for my son for his birthday as he wanted one to play for his young children. Made in China of course (what isn't these days) but the overall quality surprised me on the upside. It is a nice looking Ukulele. While that is hardly a reason to buy it is good looking instrument if hung on wall. Tuning I found was tricky even using my piano and an electronic tuner. Others who advise tightening screws on the back were right, that helps keep in tune. Of course strings stretch initially so will take several days of retuning to get to hold its tune. Sound quality is nice and having gig bag nice too although it has no pocket for picks, etc. as some gig bags do. Still those can be put loose in bag so not an issue unless you want a bag that will hold music as well in which case this is too small. The DVD is good short course although it tends to go rather quickly so be ready with pause and back button. And the section on tuning is not very helpful as he goes through it too fast to be of use, especially when first tuning. But to teach some background on the Ukulele, quick cords, easy songs etc. it is nice to have. For someone who has not played the Ukulele before this is quite helpful. Overall, for the price, this is a good value.

Could be a great buy
This is an excellent instrument with only one major problem. I had to replace the string tighteners. Now it is easy tune.

Mahalo ukulele - Nice little instrument for the price
I received my Mahalo baritone ukulele from Amazon.com today. I'm a performing singer/songwriter, mainly on guitar, and occasionally banjo. I have several vintage guitars that have been custom set at the factory specifically for my performance style. So you could say I know a bit about stringed instruments and good sound. A friend suggested I get a baritone ukulele, since the four strings are typically tuned to the four highest strings on a guitar in standard tuning. The ukulele arrived in perfect condition. The finish is matte, a bit bland, but attractive enough. The provided strings aren't good, but that is typical for instruments, and I will replace them as soon as a good set arrives. The ukulele smells new and a bit like Elmer's white glue! The sound quality is good for what it is. Ukuleles aren't known for their resonance and sustain. The tuning machines are a bit cheapish. They can be tightened using set screws on the end of the tuning pegs. Too tight and it is difficult to precisely adjust string pitch, too loose and the tuned strings won't hold their pitch. Right now, the strings don't hold their pitch very well, but that may be a function of crappy strings or stretching nylon strings. The ukulele responds well to a capo (try using a banjo capo), requiring little retuning after the capo is set. The intonation is fair - good with decent overtones. The gig bag is cheap, primarily a dust cover, and doesn't even include a pocket or two. If you want to carry picks (sacrilege to ukulele purists, I am sure) or a capo, get a small bag that can be tossed into the gig bag along with the ukulele. All in all, I like the price and recommend this as an entry level instrument. I am pleased enough with the sound that I will likely perform on stage with this ukulele. I will update my review once I have had a chance to try new strings.f

Great beginner ukelele for anyone. Mine didn't have Aquila strings though.
It's not a toy, great quality for the price! It place nice but the strings it came with were not Aquila. I had to stretch them for an hour before I gave it as a gift. I have two other uke's I have Aquila strings on and they never stretch much. I would have gave 5 stars if it wasn't for false advertisement about strings.

I like it
Decent ukulele. Sound is clear. I did recently file down the bottom of the bridge to lower the action and find it better then ever. Very playable.
