MIKE MAURRO PEAK-HOUR REMIXES - SOULFUL COLLECTION of Mike Maurro re-mixes many tracks originally released on the 1970's and 1980's. Mike Maurro, a native New Yorker, was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1973. He lived there for the first seven years of his life before his family made a permanent move to Queens, where his passion for music first surfaced. In 1984, after watching the motion picture "Beat Street", Mike began following dance music by scanning the top dance hits on New York City radio stations such as 100.3 Z-100, Hot 103.5, 98.7 Kiss FM. It was during these years of intense music study that Mike discovered DJ's & producers such as Arthur Baker, John Robie, Afrika Bambaataa, John "Jellybean" Benitez, the Latin Rascals & "Little" Louie Vega who fueled his desire to become a DJ. By 1986 he was ready to start mixing. His DJ career began with a handful of 12" records and 2 mis matched turntables he set out to learn the art of beat mixing. By late 1987 and 1988 He began working mobile jobs such as weddings, birthdays, and block parties with a neighborhood DJ company "All Night Long DJ's"- before he was even old enough to drive.

Superb Disco Classic Remixes!!!
If you are truly a disco music aficionado then you MUST own this incredible collection of some of most beloved songs that came out in the late 70's and early 80's. Using the original song, everyone single one of them has been re-extended. You get to hear the beautiful vocals plus some instruments you never knew were there. For example, Candi Staton's "Victim". The song features some gorgeous string arrangements I never heard before. Everyone song is a work of art, a masterpiece. Bravo Mike Maurro!!!

Fantastic collection! Buy it now!!
Have mercy!!! I'm not even halfway through listening to the collection but I'm already in heaven. Mike's remixes to these songs are so authentic and killer - you'd swear they were the original 12" mixes. The Blue Magic track had me smiling while walking to work. I can't stop twirling...like I'm an original Soul Train dancer lol. I purchased this on a whim and based off of all the other fantastic reviews here. I'm so glad that I did. Job well done, Mike Maurro!!!

MIKE MAURRO IS REMIXING THE MIX
Great selections, fantastic mixes, and diverse styles. This 3 cd collection also contains a good reading pamphlet. I would say Mike Maurro has a real flair in doing the right thing in his remixes. I can see Tom Moulton's influence in MM's mixes. I enjoy about 2/3s of the cuts very much. That % is not too shabby considering the choices of different artists. I rate this collection very good.

Surprisely good remixes
As 80s & 70s music fan I was interest on acquire this CD. In a first glance I was not so much excited about it and I am not an enthusiast of remixes. The CD is great, track list and sound quality. I really loved Candi Staton's remixes. If you buy this CD and as me is an 80s & 70s music fan I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed. Recommended product.

Tom Moulton...take a break
Impeccably remixed and remastered!!!!. Mr. Maurro breathes life into these classic tracks. The remixes are sweet and the remastering is superb. What Tom Moulton did for many records back in the day, Mike is doing now and although taking some points from maestro Moulton himself, he takes the mixes a step further. A must buy!!

EXCELLENT tasteful remixes of the original multi-tracks
EXCELLENT tasteful remixes of the original multi-tracks, done in the classic style of the original time-frame of their release and continuing popularity. No BS "house-ification" here - strictly classic-style, the way Tom Moulton or John Morales would do it.

Peak hour? Don't think so.
As someone who collects a LOT of remix series, and have been involved in some myself I feel pretty comfortable giving this 3 stars. There are some very serious gems in this collection, but apart from 2 or 3 I would highly recommend, the rest of these tracks really just fall flat. It feels like Tom Moulton inspired this, but the follow through just wasn't there. The extensions are dramatic in the wrong places sometimes, there are no real significant changeups to the songs themselves, and the orchestral parts are far too prevalent and center stage on these, resulting in a lot of drawn out, somewhat boring versions. I really don't fully understand where they got the term "peak hour" from for this. I DJ all around the world and I won't ever be playing these during peak hour. His remix of Doctor Love for example, managed to take a very energetic and dancefloor friendly tune, and make it one I want to skip ahead on before the lyrics or any instrumental changeup come in, at least a full 2 minutes later... I find myself simply wanting to here the originals instead, or remixes by the true masters. The clarity and mastering is top notch, and the quality of mixdown in general are truly superb on every track, I have to hand it to them there. But this is going to sit on my shelf and honestly just not get much play.

MIKE MAURRO & TOM MOULTON

Grande Maurro!

Now you know when you hear a great remix, the first thing that comes to my ...
I was there at the beginning of Mike's Remix Adventure.....It started with The Spinners' "I'LL BE AROUND" [included in this set].......Now you know when you hear a great remix, the first thing that comes to my mind is CAN HE DO IT AGAIN???Next one I heard was another Spinners Classic: "COULD IT BE I'M FALLING IN LOVE".......another brilliant mix.....OK...I think this guy has talent....so I had to find out more about him......I figured he was an older guy like me who LIVED thru the 70s....Absolutely NOT......I found out he was BORN right smack in the middle of the 70s and via DJing in the late 90s, Early 2000s he grew to love this brand of 'real' music and started using his connections in the industry to find the multi-tracks to remix.....I know of one key guy who used to work for WEA that was Mike's friend for years, and he kept feeding him these WEA tracks....Each one Mike has made into a thing of beauty.....and they are included in this set:"YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE" ~ "DEEPER" ~ "STAY FREE" ~ "TRIED TESTED AND FOUND TRUE" ~ "WATCHING YOU"All Full length 12" Versions<-----Just these 5 Tracks are worth the price of this CD Set!!!Whenever I play these tracks on my Internet Radio Show [CRIB Radio] it always gets a great response.....During the last 5 years Harmless Records has brought us the BEST of the Soul-Disco Remix via Tom Moulton's ReGrooved & P.I.R. Box Set and now continues the tradition with the Maurro Peak-Hour Remixes..........<<BRAVO>>

Maurro vs. Moulton
- Sorry Mike
