Worth a watch
The battles for North Africa during World War 2 were sometimes desperate and hard-fought in extreme heat and unforgiving terrain. The original version was made in 1943, while the war itself was still in progress, and it was well-received. There are enough differences, and acting by the players in this 1995 remake, that this version is worth watching. I first saw the film when it first aired on cable and was impressed by James Belushi. In my humble opinion, the Bogart version is slightly better (I recently rewatched both films back-to-back), but this remake, unlike so many other films, stands pretty well on its own merits. Enjoyed.

Just great
This movie has been a favorite of mine for years. Both movies should be watched. The original and the remake..

Great 'classic style' war movie!
I saw this on cable back in the 90's and had a VHS tape copy for years, but it got lost in a move. I have not seen this fine film in over a decade, so, when Amazon had it for purchase I knew I had to get it. Great version, of the classic Humphrey Bogart film, updated with only a couple of minor plot points changed. Language was updated as well, but is not out of line as was the gore. Not much considering the carnage shown in the film. Great sets, great props, and the acting first rate. Most of the cast are unknown, and Jim Belushi did a fine job, with the role he had as did the others. The quality of the DVD is fine, but be advised, there are a number of scenes that are grainy. Fault of the original film photography, not a digital transfer artifact. Audio is good, with only a few spots where I noticed any thing. Not much in DVD menus or extras. This appears to be a print on demand disc.I actually prefer this to the original, and I'm a great fan of the original. I'm glad to get this finally on DVD.

Belushi is no Bogart
This is ALMOST a shot-for-shot remake of 1941's "Sahara" with Humphrey Bogart. I sat almost because there are some plot differences. Jim Belushi's interpretation of the role as Sarge is good, but not Bogart. All in all, it's a good film IF you haven't seen the original.

A very well made remake of a classic.
Very seldom remakes do proper justice to the original, but this here is one of the very few exceptions.I'd seen the original 'Sahara' with Humphrey Bogart a long time ago and loved it. When I saw this remake televised on syndicated TV some years ago, I was very impressed to how closely it followed the original in every detail. Looked for it for a long time and just recently found it here on Amazon. The action sequences are very well done and the interaction and background of all the characters, axis and allies alike, makes for a well rounded cast to a very engrossing and thought provoking story.I'm a serious enthusiast of World War II movies and always look for the detail and accuracy of the storyline and wouldn't give a good grade to to an average production. Even though is not a major production, this movie has all the right elements. Most definitely a nice addition to anyone who has a solid collection of WWII movies. You won't be dissapointed.

Great war movie!
I first saw this on a movie channel on pay TV years ago. I loved it but couldn't find it any where. When you type it in any where on the net it comes up with that stupid movie with Matthew McConaughey. But finally I was able to get it here on Amazon.**SPOILER**It's basically about a small rag tag group of allied soldiers from different nations defending a well in the Sahara desert against a dehydrated regiment of German mech. Infantry who are desperate for water.**END SPOILER**The one thing about watching this movie is that it makes you feel very thirsty for water. I found myself pausing the movie and drinking a litre of it.Apart from that it has great battle scenes, good acting and is a very entertaining war movie that I recommend highly.

A Reamake That Works!
Remakes often fall short of their intended mark. This one doesn't and even rivals the original.

Great War movie
The movie is well acted, one of Belushi's best efforts. The actors playing the soldiers are very believable. The scenery is excellent, could be North Africa in 1942. I think it is as good as the Bogart 1943 movie.

must see
It is a shame that this movie is not on DVD as i personally thought it is worthy of a digital release, although shot in Australia, you can't help believing that you are in the Libyan desert.I agree that the original in black and white is more atmospheric, but this verion still keeps you entertained due to the "boys own" story.I enjoyed it and that's why i have given it 5 stars.....go on, give it a go!

Nice war movie with James Belushi
Nice war movie with James Belushi. Not a great movie but very interesting, I liked the characters in it. I was interested in see the M3 Lee tank in action as I was doing research on it. The tank used in the movie is now in the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. James' signature is written on the inside of the starboard door of the tank.

the DVD and case are in excellent shape. i enjoy the movie but it's certainly ...
the pkg came within the timeline near the early end. the DVD and case are in excellent shape. i enjoy the movie but it's certainly not the great drama that Humphrey Bogart made it in the '40's.
