A gritty and exciting romantic suspense
Zapata isn’t just about the romance, although trust me, it’s there, especially with a leading man as conflicted and sexy as Alejandro. Swoon. It’s also a gritty tale that exposes the underbelly of cartels and border politics and encompasses how those conflicts affect innocent families and especially young women. Ms. McDavid writes as though she’s had firsthand experience navigating the realities of that world and she’s created a character in Avery who is driven and smart and brave with just the right amount of disregard for her own safety. Enter Alejandro. Swoon again. And when these two pair up, Zapata becomes a fast-moving tale, with plenty of sexy moments, trust me, that forces Avery and Alejandro to fight their way back to the border, even if it means only one of them makes it out alive. Recommended for anyone who likes their romance full of suspense, adventure and a man named Alejandro.

Thrilling!
Zapata is a thrilling and suspenseful romance that will keep you on your toes from the very beginning of the book. You are taken into the dangerous world of the drug cartel, and you are immersed into a perilous love story about two people who have all odds stacked against them. The main characters, Avery and Alejandro, are compelling and complex, and you are left rooting for them to be together throughout the book. McDavid paints beautiful and scenic descriptions that transport you into the story. You are sucked into each scene, and the excitement on every page keeps you anxiously waiting with bated breath for the next scene. McDavid’s knowledge about the cartel is impressive, and you are submerged into all the little details and nuances about the secret way of life of the cartel. She has a keen sense for understanding human behaviors and motivations, and her characters are executed beautifully. This is an exciting and suspense love story, and it’s highly recommended!

Love and cartels = YES!
This book kept me on my toes and kept me engaged. The bond forged between Alejandro and Avery while they ran from the cartel made me turn the pages faster and faster to see how everything would unravel. I loved Avery's strength throughout the entire book - even in the worst of situations, she remained strong and forged on. And who doesn't love a sexy suave man who does any and everything to keep his woman safe?? I know I do! He was her savior and protector when she needed one the most. The journey they had to take was rough. But when you combine sexual tension with illegal activity and a crazed member of the cartel chasing after you, it's a yes please from me!Love can find you anywhere - especially when you least expect it.

Fictional Suspense Thriller of the First Order
Zapata is a fictional suspense thriller of the first order. Zapata is a town on the Texas/Mexican border that author Harper McDavid uses as the setting for conflict driven by Mexican drug cartels. From page one, Harper launches us into their ruthless world and with each new revelation takes us deeper into the cartels, regulatory authorities, and lives of innocent civilians. Each revelation shows the brutality, forcefulness, atrociousness and intimidation of the drug world that peppers the story with pervasive paranoia. Harper demonstrates the art of storytelling by skillfully dovetailing the story’s various elements into a tight, dramatic and satisfying conclusion. And like any good thriller, our protagonist becomes enmeshed in an ever more deeply passionate romance.

Fun and Thrilling
Zapata was a great read!. This was my first romance novel and I really enjoyed it. The developing relationship between Avery and Alejandro was set in the midst of a Mexican cartel war with many surprising plot turns. Harper McDavid did a great job fleshing out the characters and locales. Can't wait for the next one!

Another Five Star Author is Born
Beautifully written, her character development is stunningly sensitive. And she’s a fellow Coloradan, had to have grown up in Denver where my wife and I spent 59-years together. It can’t be long before she’s recognized by the New York Times’s ‘Best Seller List.

Hard to put down
I read this book in one day. I got caught up in Avery’s adventures and kept coming back to see what would happen next. I enjoyed reading about a strong woman who is resourceful. The descriptions of the locations made me feel like I was there. I loved the Harvey character and the chickens that Avery refused to kill.

First Romantic Suspense
Zapata was my first romance read. I’m trying to expand my literary palate— it’s normally horror and dystopian haha. Anyway, I enjoyed the excitement of trying to escape danger and seeing their love develop. I’m happy with my first romance novel!
