A very lovely gift for a special person
This pocket compass is beautifully crafted! The size of the compass is about that of a half dollar (remember those? With Kennedy on them) and fits easily into your pocket. It's also an accurate compass. Very sturdy and well-weighted pewter. And the J.R.R. Tolkein quote! "Not all those who wander are lost." Jim Clift designs has some really fantastic stuff.P.S. Saw this listed on the Sears website and they're selling it for twice the price it is here!Update 2/22/14, revised 3/13/15: My idiot ex kept this on his dashboard and it froze, cracked when it thawed and the liquid seeped out. Be careful where you keep this!

Those Who Wander Pocket Compass
Very nice. It is an oil filled compass, which is always nice for use that forget to lock the needle down in a dry compass. It has some weight so it will not fall out of your pocket easily. The picture my mislead if you think it has a lid, but it does come with a felt bag. Over all it is a nice buy.

Pleasing to the eye but not functional.
I love the tiny size and the way it rides in the pocket. However, the compass does not work. It points off in random directions and no amount of fiddling with it will get you a reliable heading. Definitely not worth how much I paid for it.

Very beautiful
I got this for my dad for Fathers Day since he used to read all of Tolkiens works to me as a kid and we both have extreme cases of Wanderlust. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this. It is about the size of a quarter, maybe a tad bigger. Very beautiful and I will probably be buying one for myself as well.

Novelty, Not for Navigation
This compass didn't have to be accurate to make me happy: I just needed it to point generally north so I could tell if I was going more-or-less in the right direction on a city street. The small size was key, since I wanted to slip it in my pocket where it wouldn't take up much space. Unfortunately, the compass I received was not accurate enough for that. After dis-orienting the compass, it would point north in random directions. I tried it outside the house and inside the house (in case of interference). I tried it in my palm (how I planned to use it) or after setting it on a table. It's really small and really cute but it doesn't work. The compass is described as a novelty, not to be relied on for navigation, and I think that's an accurate description. Alas, I'll be using my big ugly plastic (hiking) compass instead.

...you could get lost...
Really cute, but doesn't work very well. Also very small. Loved the idea, loved the saying, loved the little bag, but just not very functional.

Awesome gift!
I got this as a gift for my outdoor loving Tolkien fan of a dad. He really liked it and carries it with him on all his hikes. He says it works better than the other compass he use to carry, the print on the face of the compass is pretty small so sometimes I think he has trouble reading it, but that is probably just because it is a fairly small compass.

Saved My Life From an Unscheduled Stampede
Now I'm not saying that I've been everywhere and I've done everything, but old 4321dud can tell you a thing or two about life. And if there's one thing I've learned traveling the trail to Circle K is that penguins and bison don't mix. That being said, it doesn't hurt to know which way to go when a flurry of crazed penguins threaten to overrun your position (hint: go north; for some reason, penguins seem to gather in the south). Thanks to my pocket compass purchases (I bought two and liked them well enough to buy two more) when a generic yet tasteful gift is called for those "Whoops I forgot to get a gift" occasions, well; I won't be caught off guard. Bought in advance, one of these guys will go to my world traveler friend for Christmas. If I have any left over after Christmas, one should find its way into my pocket. Only four stars, and it "saved" my life? The compass is kind of small. [Counter Point: How big of a compass do you want bopping along in your pocket keeping keys and coins company?]
