Easy to read

Easy to read and comprehend concepts and examples. Some examples are oversimplified, but that allows a gentle introduction to the topic and piques interest for further study. My course instructor jumps from sections of the book to other sections, yet the chapters are fairly self-contained and do not presuppose you have read an earlier section. The Kindle version is ok, but it does not support this jumping around so well. I would recommend this book for anyone wishing an introduction to epidemiology.

Great rental, great price

This book has literally come in handy with my epidemiology course in grad school. Super informative and definitely worth taking a read if you're bored, some interesting things to learn about. Obviously it's a rental so it'll be a little used and marked up, but nonetheless it's helped so so far in my first semester in grad school, would rent books from this company again.

Used can be virtually new

It was actually virtually new, just had post it's and a few bent pages. No code but didn't need it.

Even though the instructor didn't require us to frequently read this text I chose to do so to be better grounded in the concepts

I used this textbook for an undergraduate epidemiology course. Even though the instructor didn't require us to frequently read this text I chose to do so to be better grounded in the concepts, ideas, and methods required in epidemiology. The instructor was not the best, and used images in his slides from this text, however I thought it best to read it on my own to help clarify his teachings. Sometimes the descriptions of the different concepts, theories, ideas and examples were dense and complex requiring constant re readings. The book describes the major study designs used in public health which include: clinical random trial, cohort, cross-sectional, and case control. I appreciate that book had examples of the topics currently discussed, however I felt that this book would have been stronger if there had been practice questions after the conclusion of each trial. I think that this would have been especially important for getting the hang of the two by two table; which I did, but as a result of practicing such questions during class and related to class lectures. This book is beneficial in providing the background information for certain topic in public health, however sometimes I believe that once certain topics are explored further the writing detracts from the clarification of each topic. Anyways I guess this textbook would be good for any undergraduate or graduate epidemiology course. I gave this textbook three stars because of the writing which at times makes simple concepts, ideas, and theories harder to grasp. I also felt that there should have been review questions regarding the topics described in the previous chapter, similarly, there should be a final review for all the topics in the book. I can't compare this text to any other textbooks used for epidemiology because I haven't used any others, however this does provide a good description of basic concepts and theories used in public health. Additionally, I can't talk about the online access that comes with this textbook since it was not used in my class. The textbook came well within Amazon's expected delivery schedule as described, further it should be good for anyone studying epidemiology and public health. I gave it three stars since it was okay and could have been better, as I described earlier. This is a good textbook. This is a subject that could easily be very dry, but the author writes in a clear, engaging, non-patronizing manner that made it actually pleasurable to read. The author included humor and a great multitude of real-life examples to bring home the point- to help you, a non-epidemiologist, understand well. I'm a graduate nursing student with undergraduate degrees in both biology and nursing, and never felt the need to write a textbook review before.

Good resource

I truly didn't use this one much as we had a different reading I found to be more helpful. The information is presented clearly and easy to read, not a bad second resource

Solid Epidemiology textbook

I had this text used for a graduate level introduction to Epidemiology course. I thought it was easy to follow. And as a bonus, if you buy it new, you get access to an online copy that includes the ability to highlight the text and take notes, which made studying even easier for me.
