This is the second book of the brotherhood of the griffon saga. This has been a pleasant surprise. The plot and story is very interesting relating to the Dragon game. As the story evolves it is interesting to see the characters or mortals respond to working with the dragons. This kind of reminds me of DragonLance stories. You have dragon born which are similar to draconian, plus the interaction of the chromatic, undead, and vampire dragons is really interesting.

R.A. Salvatore fan - New author to follow
I came across this series looking for a new author. I had seen the Richard Lee Byer's name as an author in the forgotten realms series and decided to give this a shot. I was pleasantly surprised and have almost finished this series. I am certainly a follower of R.A. Salvatore's work due to his complex character and story development. I find Richard Lee Byer's imagery a little sharper than R.A. Salvatore with a bit more realism and complexity in his writing. The character and story-telling is perhaps a notch behind R.A. Salvatore but it is certainly excellent.

Richard pulls another great one !
With Paul S Kemp and of course RA Salvatore, Richard is one of my favorite writers. After reading his Rogue Dragons and Haunted lands trilogies, I just had to get my hands on this series... and boy am I a satisfied customer !!!Im not a critic and I dont plan to be, but as an avid fantasy reader and lover, I have to say I really enjoy this book, the characters are alive and fun to read. I also love the dark worlds and plots that Richard always seem to create so well and pulls you in.Its not breakthrough stuff, but it is as enjoyable as a good fantasy read can get

Very smooth. All aspects of the story mesh very well.
Very very smooth. Many subplots and twists but Richard Lee Byers meshes them very well. Couldn't put it down. Had to even get the audible version so that I can find out what happens during the drive home!!

Magic and Swords what's not to like ?
A quick read that was entertaining. The characters were fairly well developed and with the usual amount of "good verses bad" or in this case " bad verses badder " The dragon part needs some work but I liked the main charters ...

NEXT!
I'm ready for the next one, going to buy it as soon as I'm done with this. As with any novel, if you become attached to the characters, and are concerned with their fate, it's a good read. When you can't put it down, that makes it a great one, and "Brotherhood of the Griffin, Book 1 is definitely that.
