I found this author through her writing with Auryn and their co-written books and series. After reading all of her books I jumped to he co-author Kitty, and was very impressed. Characters are believable and sexy fun. The stories are realistic and have real world issues without losing the romance. One thing that I really admire is both authors portray real social issues without preaching or dumbing the issues down. This one dealt with domestic violence so might be triggering for some people but for others it could be an inspiration..so nice to see sexy and smart women and men with real world flaws and scars. Keep it up Kitty! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Filled with all of the emotions *by A***P on Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2019* If you, like me, are the type of person who tortured yourself looking at available pets to adopt on petfinder before remembering that your old and cranky cat is very much old, cranky, and doesn’t play well with others, you, too, may find the beginning of this book very difficult to read. It's very good and worth it—but it was not easy.Why? The beginning of this book introduces us to our protagonist Brook, a thirty-something year old woman who volunteers at an animal shelter. Which is all well and good but also realistic—not all of the animals in the shelter have had happy lives and you will find yourself wishing you could reach through the pages to rescue these animals. So that’s an exercise in futility and some tears.But that’s not the full story (because that would quite frankly be a book I wouldn’t finish). Instead it’s the backdrop for Brook meeting Ryder, an attractive and somewhat mysterious man who is fulfilling his community service hours at the animal shelter. Again all well and good, except Brook is married to Owen. Who is a dick.Owen being a dick means that Brook has to leave and Ryder, along with his twin brother Hunter and Brook’s college friend Alison, come to the rescue and get Brook out of a bad situation... and into a romance with the two brothers.The emotion of this book just drips from the page and fills up the room. From Brook’s work at the animal shelter to her encounters with Owen, her reconnecting with Alison and the development of her relationships with Ryder and Hunter, the setting, the dialogue, and the experience are all right there on the page to ensnare the reader. So many spoilers I could give, but I think that would be doing you a disservice. This is a book that you need to experience for yourself. Its so beautifully written, so well thought out and executed. There are triggering things in it, domestic violence and animal abuse, but they are handled carefully and skillfully. As its happening, you know its going to be bad, but they are not spelled out in excruciating detail. You still feel the impact of them, feel the horror, the devastation and the rage, but its not in your face. Just be warned that they are there, and honestly necessary for the development of the character and the story.My emotions were everywhere with this book. It had me laughing, crying, angry crying, scared, heartbroken, hot and bothered and a few other emotions, lol. I connected with the characters on a level I didn't anticipate. It gave me food for thought on some things in my own life, and its found a place in my heart more for it.I will say this; I loved the characters, they really shine. Brook's spirit and strength, Ali and Leah's love, support and tenacity and Ryder and Hunters... everything! I even liked Marcy, though at the beginning I was thinking I'd hate her. They are all flawed, amazing and have this wonderful depth to them that for me, brings them to life.So good! So amazingly good! I can't wait to read the second book! So thank you Kitty Cox, for the experience, and thank you for writing such a brilliant story. I know it will resonate with more than just total book nerds/animal lovers like myself.
