Tropic Hats Summer Wide Brim Mesh Safari/Outback W/Neck Flap & Snap Up Sides

Bought this hat to take on a fishing trip. It was exactly what I needed. I don't like hats that make my head hot but I get sunburned easily and need protection. This hat does both well - top is ventilated about as well as a hat can be but it's big enough to protect my face and head from the sun. And the mudflap in the back if you need it to keep the sun off your neck. Great hat.I have a large head, like 24" dia. After reading the reviews I could not decide between the 2XL and the 3XL. The fishing trip was coming up fast so I ordered both just to be sure. The 2XL was a little too snug but the 3XL was perfect. Returned the 2X with no trouble at all.

I wear a size 8 hat. 7 7/8 is slightly too tight, but if my hair is cut short enough I can wear it. I struggle to find a hat that fits. I've never found one in a store, only online. I figured out that military hats come in size 8, so I have a few military boonie hats. I wanted a more comfortable, better looking hat. Size on both tags said 3XL for mine. It fits perfectly.This is much nicer than the military hats. I wore it fossil hunting the other day in an exposed area on a hot summer day in Central Texas. It provided a lot of coverage from the sun and since it's vented, didn't get too hot. The top is mesh, so sunlight can get through some, although it would be reduced. The neck flap can be folded up into the hat if you need more coverage up top instead of on your neck. I've got enough hair on top, for now, that I wore it with the neckflap down.I think it looks nice too! Not catwalk nice, but nerdy dad nice.Only negative was that it had an odd smell initially after opening it. Was a factory, plasticy, smell. I hung the hat on my back patio for a day or so and the smell went away. I'll likely purchase another color too, now that I know I like the hat.

Hat is very nice looking but it smelled like it had been made with something dead. This is no joke. I bought this hat for my husband for Christmas and I couldn't even give it to him then because it smelled like a dead animal. The smell dissipated somewhat over a week and I tried to give it to him then. He took a smell of it and refused to ever wear it. I'm going to try to wash it and see if that helps. I should have just returned it but due to the cost of shipping it back, I figured it wasn't worth it. I won't be buying anymore hats from this seller. Seller needs to smell what He/She is selling. This couldn't have been the only hat that smelled like this

When I unboxed the hat the odor was horrible. To me it smelled like raw shrimp after sitting out for a couple days. My wife it smelled like a dogs anal glands. I washed it three times and the smell is still there. Even sprayed it with Febreze hoping that would do it but it didn't. It's out in my garage now. Maybe sitting out there for a month or two will resolve the issue. Definitely don't bring yours into the house, you'll regret it.

I was excited to find a decent hat to fit my 25” head, but... It had a faint, unpleasant, chemical smell when I received it. I figured no big deal, I’d just wash it. I hand washed the thing and holy hells it made the smell approximately 100x worse! I machine washed it on cold and let it air dry, twice, with zero improvement. Was this dyed in the runoff from a toxic waste dump?! Seriously, I’m not overstating how bad this thing smells. Stay far, far, away!

It seems like most paddling hats are not ventilated enough for me. Most are made of nylon, that doesn't breath, with small vents along each side.While this works for paddling in a breeze, it isn't very cool in still air, or going down wind.This hat gets the crown ventilation right, but has a few other quirks that kept it from a perfect score.My biggest problem with the design is with the neck drape. Instead of being made of a cloth that breathes easily, it is a rather heavy cotton fabric, with absorbs sweat well, but doesn't allow air through.The other issue is that the neck drape doesn't have a way to secure it up out of the way.I plan on adding snaps to the drape and brim to give a better function to the neck drape.

I got this hat to use on walks to avoid sunburns and it does a good job in that. I wear it every day and thus far its held up well.I got an XXL and probably should have gone up one size. I wear a 7 5/8 cowboy hat for reference.My only issues are minor.1. I wish the brim was a bit wider. It is good, but an extra half inch to inch would be really nice.2. I wish the brim was more flat. From the day I got mine, it has never been as flat as the picture here. It is extremely wavy. Not a deal breaker, but it is a minor annoyance.3. I wish the neck shade had some way to roll up and velcro or snap. Right now its either down, tucked into the hat which cuts airflow or tucked over the rear brim which does not stay up long. I may have my wife add a snap to the shade and brim to hold it up.Overall, its a good hat for the cost. I would and probably will buy another when this one needs to be replaced.

Comes flat packet. Just open the bag and save it for winter storage.Fits my 25” circumference head perfectly. Brim offers good sun protection. Open mesh let’s the breeze blow through and keep you head cool. Mesh on the back protects the back of my neck. The draw string under the chin is adjustable and provides a helpful way to keep the hat from being knocked or blown off my head.It is perfect for mowing my yard or working on my tractor.No odd smell as others have stated. Mine had a neutral scent like a new hat.
