It's PERFECT
Okay here's the scoop! I don't usually write long reviews but I really wrestled with this purchase due to the hefty price. I know others are wondering so I wanted to review it well.I have bought three other cages and quickly realized they were cruel and too small for my Syrian (who's a chubby gal.) Had I bought this cage size sooner and spent the money I would've saved about 150 dollars and the room in my shed that is holding three empty hamster cages! This cage is BIG. It's PERFECT for a Syrian and would be even roomier for a smaller size hamster like the dwarfs. The bar spacing is small and perfect. All the reviews speaking about cheap, broken parts...I didn't find. It came over pacakaged in my opinion and everything was well built, just don't hulk grip the tubes and take your time! The directions are pictures only but it doesn't take a rocket scientist. My son is 9 and helped me and he told me "it's like building legos, study the pictures before you move on." So, a nine year old can build this cage.THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE is the top house and tubing. I've included pictures of this issue so you can see. If you use wood chips or any bedding in the top house that is loose it'll fall into the tube and potentially trap your hamster in the house. The chips fall in and the hamster can't pass. I wish the tube jutted out from the side of the house so chips didn't fall down into it. I solved this by using some fleece from my guinea pig house and making a little "rug." My hamster digs at it but it won't go through the tube and I can wash it. Problem solved. The little built in huts are neat, my girl is pretty chunky but she fits still. A smaller hamster would love them. You could put treats or a sand bath in them. The litter box...my hamster could care less. This could be used a sand bath too but I put food and seed mix in it. She climbs in like a sit in buffet. The inserted play shelves can all be removed and you can design this cage how ever you want, there's so much room the possibility is endless. The slide and ladder are smooth but my hamster can use them easily with the raised ladder "steps." I like that the top wire portion isn't super tall, my Syrian needs floor space not vertical climbing room to heaven. My wire wheel hung perfectly (she pees in plastic ones and makes a gross a mess so I didn't use the wheel included.) The water bottle doesn't leak, the cage is sturdy and everything is secure. For those saying their hamsters escaped, I would be willing to bet it was because the tube housing wasn't properly snapped to the wire cage top and they slipped out at the base of the tube. Snap and wiggle everything to ensure it's secured before letting your little critter free in the cage.Great product!! Look no further. They don't sell anything this good or big in pet stores. They should because the cages they sell are cruel!TOTALLY worth the money even though it's a shame companies charge this much!

Perfect for a Syrian!
Perfect cage for a Syrian. Impossible to find anything like this in the stores. Syrians need ground space and my girl loves it!! She was hiding in her old cage bored. Now she plays for hours! Don't even waste your money on the small retail chain cages. They are not big enough and cruel to the hamster. Syrians need more space. DIY or get this.

Happy Hamster = Healthy Hamster
Happy Hamster = Healthy Hamster! Best Syrian cage available on the market. I made the mistake of purchasing a cage too small for a Syrian Black Bear Hamster from the local pet store . After visiting the vet for a critter checkup, I was informed the Kaytee Crittertrail cages were not large enough to house my breed of hamster. Not enough overall space and the tubes were too small. The Lixit Heaven Metro cage tubes are perfect size and the play area is excellent. My hamster is extremely happy and healthy. The product construction and quality of materials are very good. The price is high, but this is a cage for the long-term.

Big, sturdy, and apparently fun.
First off, losing 1 star for the wheel and the 2 ladders. All 3 are ridiculous, takes my guy way too much work to climb the ladders, he'd rather scale the sides of the cage. And the wheel no matter which way you slice it is beyond annoying; its stand is flimsy. I'm in the market for a wodent wheel or silent spinner so this noisy contraption will have to do for now. I'm iffy on the color of the bright green "bedroom" up top, maybe it's just my little dude but he likes dark places. Nothing a coat of dark paint on the outside can't fix.On to the good.-Wonderfully strong and secure wire cage top, the blue bottom is also sturdy plastic as one would hope for this price, but you have to have it in your hands to appreciate the quality. Enough depth to keep my hammie happy with digging, foraging, etc. since the substrate can be piled quite high.-Lots of holes in the tubes for ventilation, very nice touch. The tubes themselves can be taken apart like sandwich loaves so-to-speak on the horizontal for easy clean up. The tubes fit into their connectors fairly quickly, and if you're a re-decorator like me that's something to love.-The two small hidey-houses I don't completely understand their purpose but I have all 3 houses (incl. green one on top) filled with different bedding: 1) crinkled paper, 2) tissue paper 3) toilet paper. It's nice to give him that variety, so he has options.-It does come with a food and treat bowl (2), eh, I hand feed the treats and put his regular bag-food along the substrate so he can forage for it, so for me they aren't necessary, but again all (but 1!) of the plastic components are very sturdy.-Realizing that this thing came with a potty made me laugh and roll my eyes, but I thought "why not, I should give the little guy a chance." He does #1 in there at every opportunity and the sample litter clumps up quickly and fairly unobtrusively. For some reason my lil stinker does most of his #2's near his food in his sleep area, then he has the gall to clean himself next to the whole mess like it doesn't even matter. Whatever, I'm over it, the pee pot is here to stay. I didn't put it in right away, first I looked to see which corner of the cage he liked, then I cleaned it and put some of his #'s in the potty. He used it on day 1! (#1 of course.) So now to buy a legitimate bag of litter for my hamster without rolling my eyes.-Also comes with sturdy handles on the sides which makes shifting this thing around a breeze considering its size. Without these the whole moving ordeal would be way too bothersome, nice touch.-Another thing I like is that the whole cage is very customizable, again for re-decorators this is a plus. That green hut on top can be easily removed, you bring down the wire latch and bam, secure. Some modifications.I've added a strong piece of cardboard towards the middle of the lower plastic portion, as a divider. One side has his substrate that he goes digging in, I can hide a full length paper towel tube in there and he still has *plenty* of room. On that side I've added a bird bath bowl that attaches to the wire portion and have out some chinchilla sand in there for his bath, he loves it. Then on the other side of the cardboard divider is his potty in its corner, his ridiculous noisy wheel (which btw MOVES, yes the stand will change position while the wheel is in motion, unless you tape it down), and I've added smooth rocks which they like in the summer, and Timothy hay for flooring. So all in all he loves to explore this place, I love to change things up, I think we're both satisfied for the most part. I plan on using some non-toxic glue (glue gun) and gluing some mini cardboard rectangles to these so-called ladders, spaced maybe 1/2" apart, so we'll see how that works.
