Journey Into Mystery by Kieron Gillen Complete Collection Vol. 2 (Journey Into Mystery (2011-2013))

When writer J. Michael Straczynski decided to leave the Thor series he started in 2006, Marvel Comics needed a writer who could clear up any unresolved plotlines before Matt Fraction officially took over the title. Kieron Gillen was chosen, and he went on to write a short yet great run on the series. Later, due to his small success with Thor, Marvel approuched Gillen again to helm another series focused on the world of Asgard; Journey Into Mystery. This series was to star Thor's brother Loki, but not the Loki you're thinking of. This was the story of Kid Loki, the Loki who was resurrected by Thor in the wake of the old one's death during the Siege event. And what of this new Loki's story? It's phenomenal, showcasing some of the best storytelling in the Marvel Universe. The young Loki's story is fun, mysterious, tragic, and clever as Hel. Gillen creates a narrative that strechtes across the nine realms and beyond, with a great supporting cast of characters along for the ride. Its ambition in story is only matched by the many talented artists on the series. This collection doesn't just collect the whole run though. Being an Omnibus, it also includes concept art, variant covers, and writer interviews. This collection is incredible and a great choice for anyone who loves the world of Marvel's Thor.(As a bonus bit of information, Loki's journey would continue after this series next in Gillen's own Young Avengers series.)

I don't think I can say enough about how cool this tome is. Kieron Gillen spins a hiarious & tragic tale of a reborn Loki, struggling not to repeat mistakes of his past. Assisted by a handmaiden named Leah, the pair find themselves, scheming to save Asgardia & everything from several classic foes. A foster brother, who carries a hammer appears, as do the New Mutants & a host of Asgard's greatest characters. The omnibus is simply beautiful, packed with extras; including interviews & sketches. Several chapters also have recap pages, narrated by various characters that are hilarious. Not to mention that the art is often dream like & amazing. A wonderful take on a once & maybe future villain.

Since discovering Wicked + Divine and Darth Vader, I was excited to hunt for more Kieron Gillen goodness. Loki did not disappoint. Other than being a little too tied to other Marvel events, this was probably the best 616 omnibus I've had the pleasure to read. Hugely recommended for anyone who loves good literature and great graphic novels.

Here I was gearing up for a delightful puckish romp through the pages with my dear friends Loki and Leah and their lovable(?) pooch Thori, when suddenly! *Beep beep* All aboard the Feelsmobile! Next stop: the ninth circle of hell.My point here is that Kieron Gillen hit it out of the park, with clever writing and phenomenal characterization that kind of leaves one simultaneously desiring to give him a hug and also maybe punch him in the face, because how /dare/ something called a 'comic' book be this tragic and cause this much pain? It's definitely the kind of thing you want to read while your phone is nearby so you can stop every now and then and send capslocked texts to your friends about how much you either love or hate the section you're in.

Lovingly packaged. Book arrived in perfect condition. The book is gorgeous. Can't wait to show it off. Will happily buy from this vendor again.

This and its companion volume offer a sympathetic view of Loki, the Trickster and his deep intelligence. Great writing and art – I have returned to this storyline repeatedly.

Exceptional artwork and solid storyline. Type style is hard to read and small. A different font may have been easier to read, but it does kind of match the content.

This should be a mess, as it weaves itself through a major marvel event and passes over a few others. But somehow through all that it's still amazing, no other reading really required unless you're a completionist. If you are check out siege, fear itself, and then matt fractions Thor. I highly reccomend and comic fan find a way to read this.

Loki omnibus is a must have for loki fans, i heard that also a new omnibus will coming out soon.not very big and I would have appreciated more extra content or stories.

I bought this book because the name of the product was "The Complete Collection" and I thought it contained the whole stint of Kieron Gillen as a writer for Journey Into Mystery. It doesn't. It is just the Vol. 2, even though it is not stated on the name of the article. It is profundly misleading and it doesn't takes much to even call it false advertising.I would suggest that either Amazon or the actual seller changes the title of the book so it does reflect the actual item they are selling. The way I see it, I only got half of what I bought.
