What kind of abrasive material is used to make these? I need to deburr slots between flanges in aluminum airplane ribs. Can't use anything with iron.

Sorry I'm not sure about that. I mainly use em for knives buffing polishing kinda thing nothing as delicate as what ur doing.

can these be used to shape wood?

They can be used for wood but give off a lot of dust depending the species and depending on how dry the wood is. Hardness of the wood and speed of the tool you are using also play a part in how long the bit lasts. I use them for drift wood and they do an excellent job.

I'd probably start at the higher grit 1st black I believe Is 800 . I'm not in the garage otherwise I could give you Better advice. Always better 2 start at higher grit and Work your way down with whatever u have available on Hand always . Especially if your not familiar with what your Attempting to do and with what. If that makes any sense. I'd reorder the samething again when I get a little more NEEDY LOL
