Excellent Introduction to JavaFX
I have been using Swing for some time to build Java desktop applications, and recently decided that I needed to learn to use JavaFX instead. This book is exactly what I was looking for. The author really seems to know his stuff, and the content is laid out in a logical flow that makes it easy to learn the basics of using JavaFX. There is a good combination of practical coding examples along with explanation of fundamental concepts. I purchased the Kindle edition, and the book seems to read fine in this format. I have found the book helpful both as an initial learning tool and as a reference guide. I did note a few typos and grammatical flaws that would have knocked off a few points in an English class, but nothing that was really confusing or even distracting (and I was an English major!).

Likely the most comprehensive book on JavaFX8 but...
This is, without a doubt, the most comprehensive book on the subject of JavaFX8. I do, however, agree with the other review that it is in desperate need of copy editing. I bought the Kindle version of it but a highly technical book likely isn't the best class of book for Kindle. I am considering additionally buying the hard copy, although I hate the thought of buying this twice and the price for the hard copy is way high for what this book is. I especially agree that it is incredibly light on FXML. A second edition should include a competent copy editor as well as a better presentation and use of FXML. Had this edition did a fuller presentation of FXML and had better copy editing, it would easily have been a 5 star review.

Good but light on FXML
Learn JavaFX is reasonably comprehensive book. It's not "for dummies" but after you have a few hours experience it's a good resource book. My only complaint is that it very light on FXML. A pro is that it has a short but adequate introduction to Java8 Lambdas, enough to get me started.

Highly recommend!!
This is the best JavaFX 8 book I've come across. Lot's of good detail and you can tell the author knows the subject and isn't just putting a thin veneer over the javadocs or Oracle tutorials. I also appreciate that the many working examples are short and to the point as I detest wading through multi-chapter "pet projects" whose accidental complexity obscures the topic you're trying to learn. Very good breadth as well - just the other day I was trying to implement drag and drop for the first time. Google results weren't cutting it for me and then I consulted this book and bingo! Chapter 26 "Understanding Drag and Drop"Highly recommend.

Good Text - Horrible, Useless as a Reference
Good text - HORRIBLE REFERENCE!!! This book is typical of books published by APress. It is essentially useless as a reference because it has a ridiculously incomplete index. Key words like Property, Pane, layout, etc. are not there. In addition, the contents is useless because it shows only chapters and not sections in the chapters even though many chapters are over 50 pages long. This is the second APress book I bought and the previous one had the same fatal problem. I'll never buy any more books from APress and I'd advise you to avoid them too.

I strongly recommend this book for all with any level of expertise ...
I was browsing google and was going through quite a few books on JavaFX 8. I must admit so far, this particular book has been quite detailed - in expressing all nuances of JavaFX8. I strongly recommend this book for all with any level of expertise on the subject - perfect book for beginners and perfect book for experts

Perfect
This book is very well written. It is comprehensive (covers most - probably all relevant topics). It is readable cover to cover: 1000+ pages in a few days. It can also be used as a reference (by looking up subjects of interest). The narrative style is coherent. There is no need to jump from chapter to chapter. It starts from basics and includes advanced topics. It answers questions I would not think to ask.Code examples are concise and complete, explaining the idea without confusing the reader. It is a very good example of programming book on any topic.I look forward to other books written or edited by Mr Kishori Sharan.
