Overall a decent book
I would this book uses simple language in general. But there was one time where I had to look at certain websites to get more clarity on what exactly a particle was. I kind of knew it in Arabic, but when we were taught Arabic, it seemed to me our teachers were poor teachers, though we learned to speak, write, but grammar was taught blindly. He has good explanations in his book. I wish there were examples and sentences, but condencing classical Arabic in such a small book is no easy task and the book says volume 1. I like the book overall... The CD is not very useful, but the book is an asset to have in your Arabic library....

Fast and Easy Way to Learn
I bought this book after taking a year and a half of Arabic in a very haphazard program. It solidified everything that I had learned and taught me new concepts easily and painlessly. The method is based on rote memorization, but the chanting of the verb forms was much easier to internalize than the gradual and stilted introduction of the forms through the texts we used in Arabic class. I wish I would have had it from the start. I felt like my Arabic verb skils tripled in just a week. I look forward to more books in this series.

excellent primer for beginners
This is an excellent primer for beginners. While it is faithful to the traditional method of Arabic study, which entails memorization of verb charts (gar-dans) and heavy emphasis on morphology (sarf), it is nicely balanced out by inclusion of some basic grammar concepts and explanatory notes, thereby showing sensitivity to Western readers' expectations. I would highly recommend this text for any student of sacred knowledge, particularly as a starting point for any serious student wishing to study classical disciplines of the religion of Islam. Arabic is the key to the Islamic sciences, and mastery of the fundamentals of classical Arabic is the stepping stone to this endeavor. One note for future editions: the CD was not very value-added. Everything in the CD was either already in the book, or easily could have been added. Either the CD should be reduced to merely a recitation of the verb charts (to facilitate memorization through repitition), or should be expanded to include more grammatical explanations of key concepts, particularly concerning the derived nouns.
