Assembly Required
There's quite a bit of assembly required, but it's straight forward. The end result is a very sturdy, low-profile foundation. There are no metal springs, but the slats are bent and a soft wood to provide flexible support.I'm using a 6" memory foam mattress (not a topper) on this. It's comfortable for me, but I couldn't sleep on it full time; the slats are just a bit too far apart given the softness of the particular foam mattress and my size (I'm about 200lbs). My girlfriend had no problems with it whatsoever. A regular mattress was fine for me as well. I'm using this and memory foam mattress in a guest room that's only lightly used and have had only compliments. The box arrived slightly crushed because the frame is significantly smaller than the box. There wasn't any visible damage to mine, but there's a lot of room for the parts to move around inside the box. The components are securely wrapped together, so they won't bang together in transport.Assembly took me about 10 minutes to complete, but it'll take longer if you don't have proper tools or enough space to build the unit on a floor. A 1/2" wrench is included, but a required #2 Phillips screwdriver is not. The 1/2" wrench I received is of surprisingly high quality, but the instruction sheet depicts a cheapo disposable style wrench, so your mileage may vary.I used a ratcheting socket wrench with 1/2" socket and a power drill to speed assembly. I also applied a dab of Loctite 277 about 1/2" from the end of the bolts. Since the slats are screwed into the frame I'm not planning on disassembling and reassembling if I ever move.Start buy placing the parts out. The short ends are labeled "this end up." The long ends should be placed so that the ridges, which support the slat placement, face toward each other (i.e. face inward). I loosely assembled the unit without the slats completely, then fully tightened them, starting with opposing corners and finishing with the middle support. I centered the slats on the frame, and screwed them in at the middle first. The woods is soft, so it was easy to counter-sink the screws, just be careful of over-sinking and splitting the slats at the edges.

I am going to give 5 stars because yes the directions are lacking BUT it's a great product - I'm a girl with Macgyver skills - just born that way and love puzzles. This one ain't hard! Trust me on this I've had some tough ones - first off they send you extra screws - just in case - even the big huge expensive bolts! I have had things that come in boxes missing bolts screws even parts so A+ for the extra hardware! Here is a picture of the big wood parts the screws & bolts are outside the plastic bag upper right. The hardest part about this is to figure out your "sides" hint it is the NOTCHED boards with cutouts on the side a bit thicker ones (2 of those). These are the ones that the supportive slats that come bundled in shrink wrap sit in - just like you've seen on other bed frames underneath. Get your sides placed. Next the top and bottoms are ROUNDED on the ends. This is actually a nice touch so when you walk by this bed you won't bump a sharp corner! I have a bed I'm replacing with sharp corners - so this design feature is another A+ See the next picture for the nice corner and you can also see the notched sides. Next screws: it's fairly obvious where the big bolts/screws go. I did have 1 with a staple partially through the hole. Yes a very slight easy to fix defect. Took pliers and bent the staple back and forth broke it off and continued installation. This whole item comes with a really great quality grey cover so no need to be perfect with it. Next photo is with the frame all done without the slats - you can see naturally where the slats fit and screw in ! Lots of screws!! 4 across each board - when done this puppy will support ANYTHING! Which is good cuz I have a ginormous 18" thick memory foam tempurpedic like mattress coming and it's super hefty. I'm a small gal 5' 1". Hubby is NOT mechanically inclined! But he can lift heavy things. This item is sturdy and perfect - yeah it had one end with a staple that was easily fixed - I have had nightmare installations and this was not it! I was very impressed with the quality and details of this product! You will be too! 4" low profile box spring is hard to find A + product here - even a girl can do it :)

STURDY and EASY TO ASSEMBLE
I obtained this box spring to add a little lift to my platform bed and it arrived in a timely manner and was packed so as to protect the product from damage. I found it was easy to assemble and that the pieces all fit into place with very little issue. I did have one of the side pieces crack when I screwed it into place; but that was not a big deal. I just added a little bit of 100 mile an hour tape around that area and it will hold for a long time. This is a very sturdy product and the height is just right for me. I placed it atop a platform bed which I also obtained thru Amazon and had made a slight adjustment to the bed by adding 1/2 inch sheet of plywood, prior to laying this box spring down on it. Well that idea to use the plywood helped me in making this assembly of the box spring easier. I am finding that the box spring which is supposed to be 75 by 54 to be a bit short. LOL I do wonder why I am finding the box spring and the new memory foam mattress to be shorter all around then the inner measurements of the platform bed. The inner measurements of the platform bed is exactly 75 by 54. I hate when my mattress wiggles downward which I have consistently found with any mattress that does not meet the exact measurements of the bed itself. Still I have given this product a 5 star as it is very sturdy and was easy to assemble
