Perfect addition to Tubular Skylights
These 2 were purchased for additional tubular skylights that I had installed recently. I was familiar with them because I had installed these fixtures in several tubular skylights several years ago. I'm very pleased with the ease of installation, as well as the overall fixture. These are not for places where you need a great deal of light, in other words they are not task lights. But they are perfect for bedrooms and bathrooms, living room and even the garage - which is where I have them installed. The house (when I bought it) had 'standard' contractor grade bedroom fixtures in the middle of the ceilings,- not ugly, but so-so, and although the rooms have windows (except for the guest bathroom and the garage), they were a bit dark during the day, and not much brighter at night (small fixtures).I had those fixtures removed, added the skylights and then the light kits. WOW - during the day the rooms are very bright and cherry, and at night, the light kits give off more light than the old fixtures - perfect solution, since I'm not a mushroom who wants to live in the dark.I highly recommend this product.

Top-quality kit (tho' somewhat overpriced)
As at least one other reviewer has noted, this is an expensive kit for what you get. The material used is top-quality, with a very heavy metal bracket/structure used for the ceramic lap socket, but I'd say that $15 would be a more fair price for the kit. Cost aside, this kit adds "versatility" to your skylights. I used one kit inside a 10-inch skylight to replace an ugly original chandelier in my entranceway, and another inside a 10-inch skylight to add additional lighting to the guest bathroom. I have them both on dimmable circuits, and they both look great. I'm using Philips EcoVantage "40w=75w" indoor R20 bulbs (from Home Depot).Rather than spending lots of time in my hot (central Florida) attic, I found that I was able to construct the required 2x4 wooden frame from inside the house, standing on a stepladder and reaching in through the 10-inch ceiling cutout (i.e. before the bottom tube was installed). I used a power screwdriver and screws 'coz there's no way to swing a hammer this way. Also, I made the cross-piece a few inches too long so that, once up in the attic, I could unscrew it and adjust it side-to-side a little, if necessary, so that its central hole lined up perfectly with the center of the tubing.

Love the light source. Packaging and build quality poor.
Got this and a good price here, so can't complain. The knuckles come apart very easily, making install more difficult than necessary. Otherwise, tube skylights are great and easy to install versus traditional ones. The natural light we now get in our kitchen and bathroom is fantastic at a fraction of the hassle of a rectangular skylight.

Nice addition to skylight
Light kit was a nice way to eliminate the need for an additional hall light. The gee-whiz factor is high from everyone who sees it. Installation was simple although the price is a bit steep considering the cost of the individual components that make up the unit - hence the 4 stars as opposed to 5 stars.

Nice light, great company
I installed this skylight to illuminate a space in my basement by running a chase through the first floor. On sunny days I no longer need any lights in the basement area because this product is so efficient in channeling the sunlight; I imagine it would be exceptional if it were lighting the first floor without running through 14' of tubing. On cloudy days of course it is somewhat less effective.I was most impressed with the company. They responded almost immediately to my concerns and were so helpful and cooperative that I won't go into detail for fear someone would take advantage of them.

Solar powered shutter and night light for ODL tube. Found on Amazon.
Went through two remotes and the second went dead in 2-3 days. Took cover off in the ceiling and found a solar panel (way too small tonkeep a charge in the batteries) that was non- functioning! Removed the SP and batteries. Gave up on that option too. The batteries were used...or supposed to open the shutter inside the tube to let sun in. Additionally, it actually was to provide a "nightlite" effect. The two tiny, I mean TOO tiny LEDs didn't put out the light of a star.

perfect
This is the second light assembly I will be installing. They work great and no further illumination is necesary in my dark hall.

Functioned properly but over priced
I bought these to go in an ODL tubular skylight and was willing to spend a little extra thinking it would be worth the money to just pop 'em in. Well, despite what the directions said, they have to be disassembled to fit up into the skylight. The threaded conduit tubing has to be inserted into the hole you drill in the skylight from the attic side. This conduit will not fit up into the skylight and through the drilled hole if you place the light at the height described in the instructions, it is too long. The wiring and fixture do have to be feed from the opening of the skylight in the room. Unless you have a helper, this is a pain to do solo. The fixture and parts can be found at an electrical store significantly cheaper, and I don't see any advantage to buying this kit, unless you don't want to shop around.Once installed these have functioned fine.
