Ok
It was fine and I liked that it was free. It was about a girl in High school finding out her dad was a serial killer and her having to go into witness protection until her dad gets caught and prosecuted. Years later the Feds are no closer to catching her dad and they finally make the decision to use her as bait. She moves back to her home town and her high school crush recognizes her. She makes the choice not to notify her handlers that her cover is blown. You'll have to read it to find out what happens next :)

Characters really come to life!
Riveting, couldn't put it down! Romance but past trauma keeps getting in the way. Characters really stayed with me! Can't wait for the next one!

A fast-paced story that had plenty of action, romance, and heat!
Taking Root is the first book in The Eros Tales series and is a touching romance. It had twists that I was not anticipating which was an extremely satisfying surprise. Danielle Reynolds’ backstory and current life were not one that I was expecting and that immediately grabbed my attention. From the start, I wanted to know more but at the same time I felt for this character’s complete isolation. Especially because of the circumstances that led her to a situation not of her own making. At an early age, Danielle was torn apart from all that she knew and forced to lead a life that was almost unfathomable but she dealt with her predicament with admirable strength. I can understand the weakness she felt when she ran into the one person who had the greatest impact on her in her youth. She knew for certain that she could not have a relationship with anyone from her past, friendship or otherwise, but for him she was willing to break all the rules.Adrian Dukas was a man whose entire life was adrift. Reeling from a recent breakup the last thing he ever expected was to run into a woman he had given up for lost. Danielle Reynolds was the girl he thought he’d spend his forever with but now she is the secretive woman who can only promise this moment. That was a promise that Adrian said he understood but ultimately, he just couldn’t agree with it. To have Danielle in his life was a gift and he was willing to go to any lengths he had to in order to keep her from saying goodbye.I think the author did an amazing job showing Danielle’s loneliness as well as lack of association to anything stable. The choices that she made, to have any human connection, are not ones that most would condone but were completely understandable. It made me feel lonely for her. I loved that Adrian was no fool and was willing to try going against his nature just to have Danielle in his life, even if it was temporary. There were a few places in this story where I think it went beyond what I would accept as realistic but it did not ruin things for me. Overall, Taking Root was a fast-paced story that had plenty of action, romance, and heat! This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Author, Katherine McIntyre. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.

4.5 Stars
This was so much more than just a second chance romance, nope this was riddled with angst, mystery, and suspense. There was so much that could have put paid to the connection between Adrian and Danielle before they even had the opportunity to really find their stride. There was true heartache in the story that I hadn’t anticipated and that caught the emotion in the back of my throat forcing an involuntary gasp as times, this is one of those books that when read in company you will undoubtedly have to continually apologise to your companions for the ministrations…I fidgeted and gasped and groaned so often I could feel my husband silently rolling his eyes at me!Adrian was perfectly imperfect, and I don’t often say that about a guy but in this case, it was definitely true. He had his quirks and flaws, but I liked that about him, it kept him and his characterisation realistic. Oh, and his family well they were a blast, not entirely the Brady bunch but they certainly added colour to the storyline.Danielle has a story to tell, a past that has shaped her present and has the power to destroy her future but she has been on the back foot for long enough and now she is ready to stand her ground and reclaim the life she really wants. But can she get what she desires or will the demons that have had her running scared for so long be enough to keep her from achieving her goals? Her time in witness protection is done, she is done and she takes the bold step to go home…foolish or brave you make up your own mind, for me I was rooting for her she had suffered enough and I was practically whooping when she determined to live a life that nobody thought possible. She never expected anyone really to see through the steps she had taken to start over but then again, she never expected to meet the guy she had loved as a teenager either…and there was no way that Adrian wouldn’t have recognised her, he would know her anywhere and just like back then there is nothing he isn’t prepared to do for her…and her situation might just call on him to prove that statement!Adrian was willing to be by her side no matter what the world had left to throw at her and I applaud him for that but darn it they had so much to overcome that at times I was skeptical as to why he would want too!As the horrors that the author riddled through the story unfolded, I was gobsmacked, the details and vivid descriptions left no stone unturned in the author pursuit of what can only be described as excellent. I read with an anticipation that was electrifying, I flipped pages like a dervish and reached for the tissues on significantly more than one occasion. This was a second chance thriller like no other and I loved it, I only hope to get a little more of Adrian, Danny, and the others at a later date!

Wildly Romantic Second Chance Romance with a Huge Twist!!
"...the years grew what once existed there from a couple seeds to a wild tangle of vines that bound them together."Wildly romantic second chance romance with a huge twist!! I loved Adrian so hard, he was flawed, real, and adorably imperfect. From his wild family, to his PIA ex, his calm strength and off the charts attraction to Danny was only outshined by their hysterical banter. There was only one point where I was curious to why the characters did what they did, but for only 2 seconds before I was swept away in the hotness, the thrills, the incredibly vivid flow of the story. The last quarter of the story had me glued with my heart racing, brought tears to my eyes, and swooned so hard at the end!! I loved it and fingers crossed we get to meet more of Adrian's siblings because they were so incredibly endearing!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!"Danny Reynolds coursed new hope through his veins, whisky warmth and honeyed surrender all at once."~~~Erika, Book Haven Book Blog
