Works well, but not for birdbath
This solar fountain works really well... and there is the rub:We purchased it for a birdbath that's about 21 inches wide (this solar fountain is about 7 inches wide); I figured that it would work just fine. Not so.There doesn't seem to be any way to anchor the unit down (which didn't really bother me, as I liked the idea of it drifting around). However, although it fires up just fine, after 30-40 minutes, it has thrown the water out of the birdbath and stops working because the water is low. We've tried two different birdbaths, and the result is the same -- we get a pretty fountain for a short time, and then the water is low and it shuts off.I think this would be excellent for a different location; a pond or goldfish pool, but it just doesn't work well in a birdbath. So, as far as functionality, I'd give it 5 stars, but I'm taking off a couple of stars because (1) we purchased it for a birdbath, and (2) it isn't practical in a birdbath, even though it's marketed as good for birdbaths.Update #1 (just under a year):The fierce Texas sunlight has taken its toll - it no longer works well; the solar panel side is pretty much withered away. But it has worked pretty well for the last year.Update #2 (a year and a half):It's still working! We purchased a different brand without a battery, thinking that this was about to die, so we've had two fountains in the tub. The solar area is weathered quite a bit now (mostly white-grey and even yellow in some places), but it will still send up a fountain; however, it's not quite a high as the newer one. In good direct sunlight, it's still good; it just is noticeably weaker. I'm actually impressed that it still works as well as it does with the panels all discolored. I decided to move this up to 4 stars.Update #3 (final)... well, we are just over two months away from two years, and the fountain has pretty much failed. So, it lasted almost two years... not bad for the price.

You will love these!
These are fabulous and a fraction of the cost on the Internet. I have used these constantly and replaced them when they finally give out (two years or so). I have to take off the little sprinkler head because they work so well they shoot the water right out of a standard bird bath. Without the sprinkler head these bubble and make little fountains - the water stays fresher and the birds hold huge conventions around “the pool”.

Perfect for my birdbath.
While I do empty and clean my birdbath once a week in the height of summer I feel that the water gets somewhat stagnant and I worry about mosquitos. On a sunny day this keeps the water circulating enough to discourage mosquito larva from developing. Also I feel that the flowing water attracts birds as well as providing a pleasant sound and site for us humans sitting on the patio next to the bird bath.

Have to kick start the thing, bottom is not level.
Seemed to die exactly 30 days after using. I tend to my fountain daily, and thought the fountain would no longer work. Apparently the the top need to be wt to help the fountain to start up again... especially if there are any hard water deposits. This is a minor problem if you want it to start up on its own each day with out prodding. I recommend only Distilled or RO water for this.Update: dies one week after initial review, won't start up at all. Additionally, if this is placed in a shallow location, there are suction cups for the bottom of the device to keep it in place, that would be nice, but the battery pack is deeper and protrudes out in a way to make it impossible to use and impossible for the device to lay flat... it will be tilted. You must have at least 4 or more inches of water for this thing to work. Three is pushing its capacity.

Worth the money
Needed around 3 hours of direct sunlight to start working . You do need to keep the water level around the water pump without shade .

Works great and is quite powerful
This little pump works very well and was very easy to set up. My only problem is that I'm using it in a birdbath and if I put any of the spray attachments on it, it shoots the water high enough to make it go out of the birdbath, especially if there's any breeze or wind. I'm using it without the attachments and it works fine. Probably should have bought one with a less powerful motor.

Better than the cheapest fountain
Bought this for our birdbath. As stated in other reviews, the suction cups on the pump were useless because of the plastic arm that holds the pump in place, which does not allow the suction cups to reach the bottom of the birdbath. The pump also does not have an adjustment for waterflow. We could not use any of the sprinkler heads, because they sprayed the water so high, the water sprayed out of the birdbath, essentially emptying the birdbath in an hour.On the plus side, the pump worked great for our use without the sprinkler heads.

ALREADY DEAD!
Even though this gets full sun all day in SoCal and is properly cleaned so there is no buildup or clogs, it is totally dead within less than 6 months. WASTE OF MONEY. My last one lasted almost 2 years... this garbage replacement couldn't even make it 6 months. The little red power light goes on but the pump never does. This pump is not the best either as for strength. It barely streams the water even with a full charge. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
