Great product for the money!
I think this drive was a great buy for the money. As soon as I took it out of its packaging I really liked the design. It was slim, sleek and well made. I really liked the idea of the data cable being integrated into the housing. For someone who wants to add a DVD drive to their laptop this product will do the trick. After unboxing the drive I plugged it into my Dell Inspiron 17R laptop. Windows 10 found the drive immediately and I was able to use it immediately. I ran a few tests to see about speed and writability. The drive easily wrote music files to a CD for use in my car CD player. I then placed a movie DVD into the drive to check the playing capability. The movie played with no lag or problems. I tried writing files to a DVD-R and the speed is acceptable for a portable drive. I then tried to run a printer set up CD as a test. The drive loaded the autorun file and started the installation program without any problems.All-in-all, I think for the price this DVD drive is one that you should consider. I would definitely recommend the purchase of this drive.

cannot write 4 GB to a data DVD
I bought this DVD drive to write data DVDs from my Linux laptop. I used blanks which had worked well on my Windows desktop. This drive worked fine when I had 4.3-4.5 GB to write (as reported by Brasero; Windows reports smaller numbers). But when I had 4.0 GB, it couldn't do it. In repeated tries, I got errors during "finalising", and the disk became nothing better than a coaster. I tested it on my Windows machine with the same data, and got the same result (although Windows was less informative). The reason why this did not earn one star is that it can be very useful if you know its limitations. Pack the disk with enough garbage data, and it will burn your data reliably. And if you want it just for reading disks burned elsewhere, e.g. playing a movie, it will work fine.

Noisy but works
Overview:I bought this for use with a new laptop that didn't come with an optical drive. I got this for light use when occasionally installing a few DVD bound games, or briefly watching DVD movies. With that said, it works exactly as you'd expect a DVD drive to work in a tiny, easy to carry package and for a reasonable price. The only con is that when this thing spins all the way up it's exceptionally loud--loud enough that it will distract you if you're playing media off the drive without headphones.Summary:Highly portable and fine for users who just need a DVD drive on rare occasions. Too noisy for everyday use and/or movie watching purposes.

Works great.
I bought this to work with my MacBook Pro. I don’t use cds or dvds that much but wanted to access some photos and videos I had from a while back. For the money this was a nice find. Does exactly what its supposed to do. Had to get use to it a little ( working with the Mac). Very happy with it.

Fast, great form factor, and quiet
Love this little drive with the USB cable that clips into it underneath. No issues with it at all. It's fast too. Would have given it 5 stars if it came with even a thin, little carrying cover or case.

Not Worst, Certainly not Best
This DVD player has caused me more trouble than necessary. I bought a new laptop and it did not have a DVD player, but this semester I need a DVD drive to do my ASL homework. This drive hardly works, I am constantly troubleshooting problems - it’s just a mess. It eventually works, but it’s a brand new item that works like a 4 y/o phone charger - you have to get it in a sweet spot, or jiggle this part like that; etc.
