Slick, informative, and a book to keep
A hefty tome, this book is full of information about the 100 favorite movies of the author. The pictures illustrating the movies are of excellent quality, the text has information about the movie, their protagonists and summary of the plot. The only thing that I disliked was that the pages are in a black background, the text is in white ink. This editorial choice may have been in keeping with the "film noir" look, but I just think that Taschen, the publishing house, likes this look, popular with many people, but annoying to many others......well, annoying to me. If you can overlook that white-on-black text, you will love this book.

This is one of the best Film Noir books I have purchased
This is one of the best Film Noir books I have purchased. I have only read through it looking at the pictures first (will leave the reading to the Holidays!) however at first glance the pictures are gorgeous, the layout is well organised and the subject matter carefully researched. The list of films at the end is fabulous - I have found one of my favourite, lesser known films listed. This book is a must for every true Film Noir enthusiast. Love it! And Noir is Noir - there is no greater genre!

A black & white feast!
This is one of the finest Taschen releases ever. Not only is it a hefty THING weighing in at five pounds plus, it's also a thoughtful consideration of a beloved art form. The layout is gorgeous and the essays -- in English only as opposed to the usual multilingual versions that Taschen usually favors -- are smart and snappy. Well done!

Great Coffee-table Book
A terrific large format book beautifully put together. As you may image it is mostly black and white and contains some of the best film-noir movies. It includes a great write up on The Maltese Falcon.

Eine umfassende, wunderschön aufgemachte, qualitativ hochwertige Zusammenfassung zu einem der schönsten, düstersten und elegantesten Genres der Filmgeschichte. Lädt ein zum kontinuierlichen Durchlesen oder zum immer wieder Nachschlagen. Es ist natürlich ein riesiger Brocken im Regal, aber es lohnt sich...

Livro para colecionador, com certeza. Acabamento primoroso, ótimas fotografias. É um pouco pesado e meio desengonçado de guardar... Uma pena não ter tradução para o português.
