Best band out there today for soild ROCK, with a bit of quirkiness. They are still whipping out enjoyable material. They are indeed "The Last Of Our Kind". Love 'em!

These dudes know how to rock! If falsetto vocals dont do it for you then you may want to steer clear, but if powerful songs attract you then buy this cd!

Always will like Darkness Just gotta think about what there singing about then it will makes sense to you I do like their beat.

Yes, yes, I know, I've already made the striking comparison of The Darkness to Queen, but it's a very owed one. The Hawkins brothers (with Justin on vocals and younger Dan on lead guitar) themselves rank Queen as top of the list on inspiration and musical influence. It's easy to see why. The folky, almost dreamlike guitar on some of the tracks feel very at home to those with a love for A Night at the Opera or A Day at the Races. The harmonies and high-pitched vocal overdubs are practically undistinguishable from that of Mercury, May and Taylor. And onstage, frontman Justin wears the most Freddie-esque jumpsuits. The name of this compilation, 'The Platinum Collection', is even a not-so-subtle wink to the greatest hits package of Queen. But the Darkness are not Queen. Queen tiptoed around glam for quite a while; certainly glam-ish rock in the early-to-mid 70s and dropping it altogether in the turn of the new decade. The Darkness find solace in the likes of Aerosmith or AC/DC, with harder riffs and even more suggestive lyrics. They also don't care about the bizarre and zany nature of some of their songs, such as in their lengthy stomper, 'Bald'.The Platinum Collection is, essentially, both their first two records (Permission to Land and One Way Ticket To Hell... And Back) stuck together, the track listing scrambled around, with their much-loved Christmas hit ('Don't Let the Bells End') stuck on the end. And this is not a bad thing, either. The Darkness have written and rocked some great stuff over the years (Pinewood Smile has some notable material and 'Mudslide' from their more recent Last of Our Kind is stellar) but for me, and I'm sure many, their debut and sophmore studio efforts are just... better. The awe-inspiring, heavy chug of opener 'Black Shuck', the glammy rock of 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' and 'Growing on Me', the hilariously obvious excess of 'Givin' Up' and 'One Way Ticket'... The Darkness' first two albums are wall-to-wall ecstasy and headbanging glory, with nary a filler to bridge the gaps. 'Girlfriend' is a comically upbeat, poppy tune, but catchy all the same - and a great accompanying video - 'Knockers' features a building anthem, 'Hazel Eyes' is a beautifully done Scottish homage that combines folk with glam rock. Even the remarkably bizarre 'Dinner Lady Arms' or 'English Country Garden' find themselves into the mix.There is a varying amount of serious and funny tone to each and every song, but one thing ties together; unifies them. They rock. I mean they really are great songs, even the Christmas staple that can seem so depressing and samey every year. It's one I always find myself going back to.The CD also has a great cover, and features every track across a single CD so there's no need to switch any over. All for a really good price. Perfect for those into classic rock, rock, glam rock/metal, Queen, all the riffing greats and the less serious.

Thought it was long about time I bought an album by these guys! It DOES rock, and it does that well. Love the whole production sound. Haven't heard the band for some years now. Could do without the naughty words but the music is rock solid and well performed.

I love this band!! Every song is brilliant with Justin's amazing vocal's.

I saw this band live last November and they perfermed a good many that are on this cd.If you like this band you've probably already got this cd but if not, you certainly won't be wasting your money.
