Nicely done with true niche appeal.
This is a very nicely produced book that would be a welcome addition to any enthusiastic Leicaphile’s library. Though many of its photographs are seen commonly elsewhere and the text contains little new or startling information for the Leica M user or collector, technical drawings and factory notes and memos included in the book provide interesting insights into the development of the iconic camera line. Besides, for the true Leica fan, the book is just plain pretty to look at.

An exquisite book of Leica M history
A worthy collection for those Leica lovers. Although a lot photos that we have already been familiar with them, we may also be able read newer ones.

Good Book. Really big.
Great pictures, lots of info, a chance to practice your German. Just don't expect to keep it in the bathroom. Its really big and heavy. It's a coffee table book. Enjoy.

If you like the details around the Leica M series of cameras this book is for you. The only negative is it's written in German and English, which share the pages, but it works out ok.

The definitive encyclopedia of the M series
An excellent Leica M book, quite different from other Leica books. The first half of the book is all about the internal construction of M cameras and lenses, and their production in the factories. This is perhaps more technical information than most people would ever want to know! But it is very good, and shows the book was written by a Leica insider. The focus is on pre-digital Leica M cameras. The next section is about the company, which is perhaps a little less interesting. Then sections on early history, Leica advertising, collecting etc, and finally a section on modern digital M cameras. All the text is in both German and English, which means a bit of skipping around is required when reading. Overall, this is an excellent, large, heavy, beautifully produced book, perfect for any serious Leica person.

Not really a book for collectors – nor users.
I liked the superb quality, the good design and photo content. However, I found the title, From 1954 to Today, slightly misleading because much of the story flows the other way – i.e. from today to 1954. Personally I prefer to read the story from the beginning of Leica to the present. Nevertheless, for those with a general interest in Leica, the camera and the Company, the book makes a valuable addition to the library.

Sehr umfangreich, unterhaltsam und reich Bebildert
Leica, mehr als nur ein Name - eine Legende!Ich fotografiere zwar nicht mit Leica, aber dieser Name steht nicht nur für irgendein Produkt, sondern für die gesamte Geschichte der Kleinbildfotografie und genau aus diesem Grund habe ich mir dieses Buch gekauft, denn neben der eigentlichen Fotografie interessiere ich mich auch für die Geschichte derselben.Ich kann dieses Buch nur jedem weiterempfehlen, denn es ist nahezu lückenlos und gibt tiefen Einblick in die Kameraentwicklung. Der Text ist unterhaktsam und flüssig geschrieben und das reichhaltige Bildmaterial trägt sein übriges dazu bei, dieses Werk nicht nur für Leica Fotografen interessant zu machen.
