Q: If I don't want to use my glue gun (when I am only mailing one or two pieces) can I melt this the old way - via a lighter, etc.

The wax takes a long time to heat up, melting it by lighter I don't think would be any faster than glue gun. Plus I usually only use this for one or two letters at a time and the glue gun makes it so much easier to apply and deal with. I would recommend spending $10 on a new glue gun and dedicating it just to the wax.

Q: Did you need to use any extra postage to mail these on an inner envelope?

You should take one set to your local post office and have them weigh it for you - a seal on the inner envelope might increase the total weight enough that the postage price will go up slightly. (as for hand-cancelling - it seems like each post office has its own rules or procedures, so we recommend going to your local PO and having them give you the cost, just to be safe.)

Sean, it is definitely easier to have a glue gun you can dedicate to using for glue gun sealing wax! You don't have to though - but be prepared for some gold wax to melt in with any glue gun sticks you use after using the wax. (For a while it will all melt together in the glue gun's melting chamber - eventually most of it will clear out, but you may see small streaks of it come out with your glue even after you think it should be gone. Great Question. Mailable waxes are strong and flexible enough to withstand postal handling, but the postal machinery could damage the seal by scraping or smearing the wax. We recommend using the seals inside the envelope, as they will not crack or break inside the envelope - and will be protected from the automated postage canceling and sorting machinery.
