RSHTECH Powered USB Hub with 4 USB 3.0 Data + 1 Fast Charging Port, RSH-A35

Many, if not most, of the earlier reviews touted this hub's physical characteristics and ability to charge other devices... and rightly so. But, for a variety of reasons, I was more interested in its ability to handle data storage devices which could add enormously to the potency and usefulness of a laptop computer. Bottom line? When it comes to accommodating external disk drives, this hub brings desktop-computer capacity to the laptop. I do not exaggerate here. My tests began by plugging the hub into a USB 3.0 port on my relatively muscular desktop computer. Then, I plugged FOUR WD Portable disk drives into the hub. As I pressed each of its convenient buttons one-by-one, my Windows OS quickly recognized the relevant drive and correctly displayed its folder and file content. Wondering how much this thing could handle, I disconnected one of the drives and replaced it with a non-powered hub which offered four additional ports. As an aside, this hub could not handle even one of my WD drives by itself. In any case, I plugged two drives into this non-powered hub, and both were almost immediately recognized by my OS which again accurately displayed its file and folder content. I didn't bother using the remaining two ports on the non-powered hub. I had no doubt whatsoever about the outcome. But, just to satisfy my curiosity. I plugged my tablet into the charging port on the powered hub. Of course, it worked fine. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If so, please take a quick glance at the one I've attached to this review. If you ever feel the need to give your laptop access to about 28 TERAbytes of stored data, this combination of hubs will do the job for you quite nicely! Before buying this nifty device, I checked about a dozen others. Best of breed? No doubt about it! -=-===-= ADDENDUM -=-=-=-= Turns out, the foregoing review was a bit premature. The day after I wrote these laudatory comments, one of the hub's four ports failed. The light went out and never lit up again. As if to prove every cloud does, indeed, have a silver lining, I soon discovered another hub which offers all of the desirable attributes of the RSHTECH hub but also features several significant improvements. I somehow overlooked this hub while surveying the field. Thus, my "best of breed" claim also turned out to be premature. At the moment, I'm looking at the new hub which is currently handling, SEVEN WD portable drives while simultaneously charging my tablet and one of my rechargeable battery packs. Here, too, I'm employing the same non-powered hub to provide the additional ports... which I probably will never need or use in the future. But my curiosity needed to be satisfied.

I've bought a dozen USB 3 hubs the past four or five years and half of them didn't work well on my iMac due to constant dropped connections. So I hate rolling the dice on a new hub and struggling with drives dismounting at inopportune times. Thankfully, after a couple weeks, so far so good: an external drive, scanner, audio DAC and LED light all work fine with with the RSHTECH USB 3 Hub. And I love the on-off switch, especially for my LED light and scanner. Plus, it seems well made for plastic (kinda used to aluminum) and has enough heft and size to not twist or fall over with everything plugged in. The wall wart power supply runs cool to boot. Plus, the high power charger port works great with my iPhone: fast charge and no extra heat on the hub. The only small gotcha is the port indicator lights: dim and hard to see due to the use of an angled bevel on the side. Mounting the indicator lights on a flat area on topside would be much easier to see.

I used to expand ability for my PC to connect to additional external SSDs from my USB port. Since the USB port on my PC didn't appear to have enough power to drive multiple drives, I purchased this externally powered USB hub to help drive more power into the external drives. Worked great! I tried using up to 3-SSDs and a USB Stick simultaneously and didn't appear to see any problems. Transfer rate appeared to be pretty good, although I didn't specifically measure any transfer rates. The overall build of the USB Hub is very solid and you can also use the Hub without the external power adapter for devices that are less power hungry. Gave 4-stars since plugging into the Quick Charge - USB slot was a little "snug". Will continue to monitor the reliability but for a few weeks now no issues and has being working very well.

This is just what I needed for use with my telescope. If you plan to use a usb hub for plugging all your astro gear into this works great. I plug my hand controller and guide camera into this hub and it is powered by my portable 12 volt power source . It then goes to my laptop computer so I can use PH2 guiding and also can control my scope mount. I had no issues with it , just plugged it into 12 volt power and then plug it into a usb port on your laptop ant your set. I also like that each usb plug has it's own power button so you can turn things off and on. I velcroed it to one of the tripod legs for use. I have been using it for about 3 or 4 months with no issues. I also like that it also has a usb power port at the top , so you could use it for a dew or whatever if needed... just one last thing, if you try and use a non-powered usb hub for this type of use it will not work, but this powered one works great...

Love this hub, I have 2, about to get a 3rd. Wonderfully small and light to ride on top of your OTA and consolidate all your ASIAir ports into 3.0 ports. The 5.5x2.1mm center positive 12v power port is perfect for what we use. I've never had dew form on it, I think it remains warm enough, but I plug the charge only port with a dummy USB cable that goes no where just to keep the leads from being exposed to the dampness.

The hub is great. The ports are showing full and true USB 3 speeds. The power ports at the bottom really are amazing and are charging my devices far faster than I expected. It took under an hour to charge my ZTE Axon 10 pro from dead to 100% which is great. This product is a great buy and for the money really is worth it. For my business this is a must have and I will be getting more for the rest of our machines. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Only issue I see depending on your use case and setup is the power cord length. I do wish it was a bit longer if I'm honest, the USB cable as well but that's only from my desk being fairly large and not having any power strip close enough but I won't knock a star off for that, just wish they had something longer out of the box.

I was extremely disappointed with the Powered USB Hub RSHTECH 7 Ports USB 3.0. The build quality was poor, the ports were loose, and the hub frequently disconnected devices. The charging ports were slow and inefficient, making it a frustrating experience overall.

Update 4/18/2021 -- Well, had a bad thing happen last night. Went to plug my keyboard USB out into this device and the plastic tab in one of the sockets broke off into my keyboard USB cable, also pushing the contact points together in that plug and causing my Mac to shut off the USB connection to that device due to an overload - accompanied with burning electrical smells. I was able to get the broken plastic piece out of my keyboard USB cable. I unplugged and replugged all the rest of the cables in and every other plug worked. I tried to turn OFF the broken USB socket but the little blue light won't go off. So it could be a combo of cheap USB sockets in this device, the fact that repeatedly trying to plug in USB cables that 51% of the time are flipped the wrong way, and maybe something in my keyboard cable caused it to break and short out. I may replace this because otherwise, it worked well since I purchased it. Or I may upgrade to a nicer device. I dropped the rating to 3 stars. --- It's a little large (but again the dimensions were provided). Using it to fast charge my iPads and for music production peripherals on my Mac. No issues with lights or buttons or anything. In fact, the ability to turn ports and off is useful. It's been over two weeks of use and no qualms.
