Vipassana, Good stuff!
This book could be considered as the companion to the famous Vipassana book, The Art of Living. Awareness of annica or the impermanence of all phenomena is key to understanding both the living and dying process. We are impermanent, our life passes, we live and we die either absurdly or meaningfully. Unlike some stories in say Judith Viorst's book, Necessary Losses, the people presented in the Art of Dying, do not fight death but accept and even embrace both its inevitability and its appropriate place in the flow of life. Their Vipassana practice makes this possible and this book tells how deeply meaningful the dying process can be. As a person who meditates regularly and who has Stage 4 esophogeal cancer, I recommend this book to anyone with a serious illness especially if they are disposed to meditative practice.

I recommend this book!
I have sat two 10-day courses. I took my first 10-day Vipassana course (as taught by S. N. Goenka) in March - April 2013. I have found many benefits from this practice. During the nightly discourses Mr. Goenka had mentioned that practitioners of this tradition face death with equanimity - observing sensation. I was intrigued by this statement. How does a practitioner view their impending death? This book answers that question. The book is comprised of quotes from Buddhist Texts, Goenka's couplets/poems, and letters written by people facing their own demise from illness and the observations from their friends/family at the time of death. The book is not meant to teach the technique. The book shows how Vipassana Meditators can live with happiness, die peacefully, and prepare for the next life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has taken a Vipassana course or has an interest in Vipassana Mediation.

Excellent book from a respected teacher!
Excellent book for a respected expert on Vipassana meditation. This book does an exceptional job of discussing the relationship of life and impermanence as it relates to Buddhist teaching and Vipassana mediation. Excellent read, highly recommend.

Vipassana Meditation vis-a-vis the Death Experience
"The Art of Dying" is about the technique of Vipassana Meditation and how it enables the practitioner to approach life and, specifically, the death experience with equanimity and awareness. The book includes the writings of S.N. Goenka, compelling and uplifting about meditators who are confronting the end of life and who have succeeded in accepting their own suffering with humility and composure. I would highly recommend this book.

Goenka hits a home run with this book.
Most excellent book for all ages. Read over and over again and keep up the practice of Vipassana Meditation. Death will become as any other experience in life - one that is to be lived with equanimity and awareness and peace of mind. Love this book.

a must to change and live a better life and be ready for it to mute into ...
I cannot think of a book that had a more profound impact on my life, even more profound than "The Art of Living" (William Hart) book which must have prompted this one....a must to change and live a better life and be ready for it to mute into something else called death, just another part of life, nothing more, nothing less. Learn also how to help others go through this passage. Read it and understand what it is you have to experiment with to remove all fears and anxieties about the most misunderstood part of life...but be warned, you will never be afraid of death ever again...and by the way, God and religion play no part in it whatsoever, isn't that wonderful?

Thank You Guruji๐๐๐ Utmost Gratitude
Teachings of Shri Satya Narayan Goenkaji made all my extremely difficult challenges simple to face. Indebted forever to my Gurudev. I loved Satya Narayan (Vishnu) since childhood and found a true Satya Narayan who teaches how to live a life of Satya. I purchased this book for my mom. If you have lived a life of Dharma then you dont need books to teach you how to die. And if you have not lived a life of Dharma no book can teach you how to die. Learnt this from our Guruji. But I'll still purchase one more for myself, coz my Guruji's every word is very valuable and unmissable. Thank you Guruji. ๐๐๐๐ง๐น

Very good read
When Yudhisthira, elder of Pandava, reached the gate of heavens he was asked โTell me one truth that man knows yet he doesnโt accept?โ Yudhisthira, the wise, replied โdeathโ. And we have this were there stories of Vipassana practitioners who have wholeheartedly accepted it. Very inspirational.
