What product would you recommend to protect the paint from peeling?

It seems every hose reel cart under $200 on Amazon had complaints about rust. I took this as a given and heeded the warning by, before assembling, wiping down all the parts with denatured alcohol and spray painted with Rustoleum "sand" color paint (it was an exact match). I also painted the wheels (not the tires) with glossy, black spray paint. After I put it together, I painted all the nuts, bolts and rivets with the sand colored paint - it looks even better than it did out of the box. I detach it from the water source after each use and store it in a shed. Many of the complains about rust were from people who showed photos that they didn't follow the instructions in the manual to avoid rust; if you left a new, $3000 bicycle outside, in tall grass and the elements, it would rust too. I admit that I'm "so extra" as my teenager says and what I did is not for everyone, just understand the limitations of the reels and act accordingly. You could also try covering it with a BBQ grill cover or similar.

Question 2

Does this cart tip/move when you roll up the hose?  Do you need to put weight on the crossbar to keep it from moving around during hose roll up?

Cart will move around when rolling up unless weight applied. I find it helpful to rest my weight on one of the tires.  It will not tip when rolling up hose if you manually move some of the hose closer to the cart.  Very difficult to reel in hose that is fully extended 200 or 300 feet.  Cart does not weather well.  You will need to store indoors.

What is the warranty on this?

Accepted Answer

The warranty is a joke.  It excludes everything that will fail or have problems.  It excludes rust, all moving parts, and all water related parts.

Is this reel easy to move around when loaded with hose?

Usually mine stays right in the backyard,because thats where the hose connection is. But when I have had to move the cart it was easy.
