For the love of ballet
Our ballet student has read and re-read this book many times. Not only are you going to get the nuts and bolts of ballet, but it also celebrates the artistry. There are topics like preventing injury, eating right, names of positions with illustrations, history, famous dancers, synopsis of some ballet stories and wonderful illustrations. This is a large reference book that your serious ballet student will turn to again and again.

Great for any aspiring ballerina.
Best informationalBook for an aspiring ballerina serious about what she’s doing. Got this for my 11 year old who recently started pointe and she loves to study it.

Great Reference Book for your Young Dancer!
Outstanding reference book. Addresses body image and eating disorders and helping young dancers to determine company directors who support healthy bodies vs directors who drive for unhealthy habits and body image. This is a subject not addressed in other books I have found and Ms. Gaynor Minden is well-known and respected by young dancers.

like an accessible ballet dictionary
Very thorough, but easy to read as well. Wonderful index! Lot of interesting facts and information scattered throughout. I can't think of anything they missed! The models are adults, so would be great for adult beginners as well. Very glad to have this to help reference, spark interest, and inform.

For my granddaughter
I bought this book for my 10 year old granddaughter, who started dancing at age 3, but only recently began taking classes at a more serious ballet school. She just took her first RAD test (Royal Academy of Dance), and was beyond thrilled to see the RAD included in this book. I think it made her feel like a part of the larger dance community.Having just glanced at this book myself (I basically bought it based on recommendations), it seems to be very comprehensive, but also interesting, vs what it could be- technical, dull and a real turn-off for younger readers.

Very comprehensive. We bought it for our 10 year old daughter who is taking ballet and it's one of her favorite gifts. Well illustrated, detailed without being out of range for the layperson

A very well written ballet guide.
This is the best ballet book I have read. It covers everything a dancer might need from beginning class to starting a professional career. The illustrations are clear and a joy to look at.

Excellent Companion
I recently started ballet classes again after over 30 years and found this book very useful to back up what my dance teacher was teaching me and also to refer to. It covers all things from etiquette, to exercises, how to tie ballet shoes etc. A very good book on the overall discipline required for ballet but in an enticing format.

ballet companion review
The book was delivered quickly and in excellent condition. This book is a good general guide to ballet and includes many illustrations. I thought this book was very good indeed for the price as it has all the basics that you need to know to enjoy watching ballet or becoming a dancer yourself. I would recommend this book it is a very good read and reference book.
