Like others, I at first thought the "brace" (as ...
I purchased the Medium with a 1.00 mm pick. Like others, I at first thought the "brace" (as I will call the pick holder) to be too small for my hand. But after reflection I think I see what the designers were driving-at with this device. As sized, the brace places the pick at the ball of my thumb, rather than my usual position, further forward. The thumb now juts forward just a little. What this does, is to remove from the picking hand motion one degree of freedom. That being the motion of the thumb at the first knuckle. This makes for a more consistent pick motion. Indeed as I think about it further, I conclude that the brace also prevents flexing of the forefinger forwards and backwards, as well as sideways, removing still more degrees of movement and inconsistencies... This has the effect of also stiffening the wrist and making the strokes more powerful, and faster.I remember my penmanship classes (long ago, I'm 72) where they stressed using the forearms more and the wrist less, to achieve those John Hancock cursive styles by constraining those degrees of freedom of movement of the pen hand.. This analogy is far from perfect, but I think that with a serious effort to work with this brace you, will find yourself a much improved player! But I am a recovering Mechanical Engineer and am prone to such semi-religious fits.Maui Bob

Great pick for arthritis thumb pain
I decided to use this pick for one month before writing this review. Week 1: not so sure, Week 2: started liking it, Week 3 & 4: found it to be a great aid when my arthritis in my thumb was hurting. Without it, when my arthritis acts up I can't keep a strong enough grip on a regular pick and the pick will start to slip out of place and my lower thumb area throbs. This pykmax pick never moves out of place, is almost effortless to hold, and transmits the pressure to the area between index finger and thumb, thereby taking pressure off the thumb itself. The only thing that takes some getting used to is the new area of pressure. There have been many days I could not practice more than 30 minutes with a standard pick and with this pick I can practice 3 hours in a row. I gave a lot of thought to this before writing this review and I recommend it to anyone who has arthritis thumb pain. I play just as well with it as with a standard pick. In fact I just ordered the red 0.6mm picks to supplement the green 0.8 pick that came with it. I only wish that they sold a 0.7mm pick. If they did that I would give it 5 stars. To me 0.7mm would be the ideal thickness. But the green 0.8 pick does pretty good and still allows for a fairly bright tone when strumming. The picture of the product makes the green pick look long and narrow but in reality it's shaped just about like a normal pick. So don't let the picture dissuade you. I'm quite impressed so far. I don't understand why other reviewers did not like this pick. It's a game changer when you have arthritis in your thumb. I watched you tube video reviews of people using it and they seemed to like it too.

pykmax guitar pick
it was to bulky, it felt to big in my hand.plus the style of pick they used was very treble sounding, i heard the sound of the pick more than my actual playing from the amp.cool idea just not for me.

Will take a while to get used to it
I tend to hold my picks well away from my hand, to prevent brushing the strings with my fingers and to provide more of the heel of my hand for palm mutes. Since I normally play 6-string bass, there's a lot of stretch involved, so I try to gain every advantage I can. I also play guitar, and wanted to see if the Pykmax would allow me to shift gears and not overreach the strings. I tend not to watch my pick/plucking hand, counting on it to go where it's needed.I found the Pykmax doesn't fit well into my hand, because of my preferred way of holding picks. As a matter of fact, my hand felt slightly cramped while holding the Pykmax, because I have to grip more tightly than I'm used to. I'll keep working on it anyway, to see if I get into the habit of playing each instrument in a completely different approach. Finally decided this wasn't for me. Maybe it'll work out great for other folks, but the way I prefer to hold my pick and the Pykmax just don't mix well. Besides, the holder always feels too small for my hand, and sometimes cramps the muscles in my thumb. Not good at all!

Pykmax will make you a better player - period. It's all about control.
Made me a better player - seriously. I've played for almost 50 years, studied guitar performance in music school, and have taught guitar off & on.I have some hand problems these days, which is variable in intensity - sometimes I can play as well as I ever did, and sometimes I can barely pick up a pick (or anything else), much less hang on to a pick while I'm in the heat of playing. The Pykmax pick has allowed me to play in a more controlled fashion, whatever the state of my hands on a particular day. This is the crazy part - I really wish I'd found these picks long ago (had they existed) because it is just a better and more controlled way to play - period. This isn't just for old dudes like me, but for anyone wanting more pick control. The most obvious difference with this pick, from the perspective of my musical friends, is that I am playing way faster when I want to. The pick just gives you that much more control, that it becomes practically effortless and you don't have to hang on to the pick - it becomes a natural extension of your hand, that happens to be custom made for guitar playing. I would have absolutely bought these picks back when my hands were fine, and it would have made me a better player then, as it has now. Don't wait to have problems with your hands - just try one of these out, give it a few days of practice, and you'll thank me, and you'll play better.

Too small for adults
Way too small for an adult hand. Not only is the grip too small, but the grip forces your pick-holding fingers too close to the end of the pick, causing your fingers to touch the strings. Might be good if your fingers are very slim. Might be. Wish I had not wasted money on it.
