Product Description TELA 80458; TELARC - Stati Uniti; Classica vocale Sacra Messe .com This sampler, which appeared in 1997, features Robert Shaw, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and its associated choruses in selections from some of the choral-orchestral blockbusters they recorded for Telarc between 1979 and 1993, in consistently excellent sound. Shaw's unrivalled mastery of this repertory shines through in every selection on the disc, not least in the excerpts that frame the program: the final pages of the "Prologue in Heaven" from Boito's Mefistofele, and the towering conclusion of Mahler's Symphony No. 8, both magnificently done. Just one warning: after listening to this, you're likely to find yourself hurrying back to buy the recordings of the complete works. --Ted Libbey

The title “Absolute Heaven” is well chosen.
My favorite CD. I have had it for years and recently sent a copy to a close friend. It is a wonderful collection of mostly sacred choral music by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus directed by Robert Shaw. Beautifully done, as would be expected. Selections from the works of fifteen 18th through 20th Centuary composers, often a cherished section, fill the 77-minutes playing time. Listening is always an emotional experience.

Magnificent
I purchased this recording to hear Deborah Voigt, not realizing she performs on the Mahler's Symphony 8 which I already had. As it turns out, this CD of sacred music composed by the best classical composers is one of my favorites. I play it daily because it is so excellent and gives me great pleasure. The Robert Shaw Festival Singers are magnificent. I highly recommend "Absolute Heaven".

Beautiful music...
Because of hearing a piece on the radio that was absolutely stunning, I ordered this album that included the same piece by the same artists. Sadly, the quality of the recording did not live up to my expectations. The sopranos had a somewhat shrill sound and much of the choral sound seemed a little fuzzy and unclear. Still, the exquisite interpretations by Mr. Shaw made this album very worthwhile. He is sorely missed.

Shaw provides Masterpiece
I have alwas enjoyed anything that Robert Shaw directs and this was an exceptional cd. I find it refreshing and a joy to enjoy some of my favorite clssics iincluding the Faure "Requiem", the Vivaldi "Gloria" and the Beethoven "Hallelujah from "Christ on the Mount of Olvies" which has been dne my church choirs in which I have participated. Th Orchestra is fine and the Robert Shaw Festival Singers exceptional.

Yes, Choral Masterpieces
Anyone who likes choral music will adore this. I find myself singing the alto parts of the music I've sung with various amateur choirs over the years and rejoicing in the beautifully tuned and finely disciplined Robert Shaw Chorale. Uplifting, glorifying, very beautiful, irresistable!

Anything Robert Shaw did was superb. It must have been quite an experience (and challenge) to perform with this man.
