and if you are one of those people this may well prove quite useful to you
There's nothing wrong with this, it's just not of much use. Many of the reviews of the textbook itself suggested buying this to use along with it. I can only suppose those reviews were written by people who struggle with grammar. There's no shame in that, of course, and if you are one of those people this may well prove quite useful to you. I've not needed to check anything yet, though I have done so just to be certain this book gets it right. I've yet to find any errors. We aren't very far into the textbook, though. The frustrating bit here is many of the "answers" are some form of "Answers will vary by student." Well, of course they will, but it would still be useful for parents to have an example of what their child's response *should* look like. The enrichment activities likewise have not proven useful to my family, but I am certain they will to others.

Well written, but old-fashioned
I bought this Language Arts book as a textbook for my 3rd grade daughter for homeschooling. I was going to review this book with pros and cons, but that depends on your opinion too much, so I am going to simply make a list about the book.-Well written-No typo or errors-Short lessons that build onto one another-The book is very small (about a size of 5X7)-The lessons are crammed into the book (lesson 1 ends, and on the same page, lesson 2 begins--no page breaks)-Old-fashioned (I found it hard to teach a 3rd grader poems from the 1890's with dated wordings and concepts)-Black and white copies of paintings or photos (the image was a bit blurry too)-Heavy use of picture study-Heavy use of copy work-Heavy use of narrate, recite, and other oral lessons-The longest reading passage is about two pages (single spaced)-The lesson instructions are a bit vague for me-The answers are in the teacher's edition, but I don't find the teacher's edition so useful because it doesn't provide me with enough background information (for example, if we are learning about a poem by Alice Carey, I wish the teacher's edition had some information about who she is, and such...I have to go on the internet to do extra research)I have heard of people call this book "gentle" and "Charlotte-Mason style". If you are avoiding workbook style, then I guess this is what you might like. I was really hoping to like it, but I only use this occasionally. It could be that it simply wasn't the right fit for us.

You need this TM!
I was using the Primary Language Lessons and Intermediate Language Lessons books (the student books) without the Teachers Manual. I was always irritated with the lessons since they were written long ago and sometimes things just weren't that clear. Then one day I was on Amazon and I saw the TM's for these books. I was actually searching for a new English curriculum when I found this. I was overjoyed. So I got them. I am so glad I did!The lessons have teachers notes, answer keys, and diagrams/worksheets in the appendix. It's great. I would highly recommend this book if you are using this curriculum. It makes lesson planning a breeze.

Helps with giving instructions for the lessons! Lessons also ...
Helps with giving instructions for the lessons! Lessons also contain possible answers for questions or dialog. This makes schooling multiple children a lot easier!

So glad I bought the teachers guide
So glad I bought the teachers guide. I debated, but it's been very helpful for some lessons. My son is really enjoying the lessons in this book!

Helpful
This will be very helpful to use with the text book. Sometimes the text book doesn't explain very much. For the cost, why go without this? Would recommend.
