The Hero of Color City

Bright, upbeat, amusing and entertaining. Watch with the kids and color along...
If you don't follow animation very closely -- and even if you do -- you have to be a discerning consumer nowadays. Even the shoddiest animated features can have celebrity voices and look good on their packages. That's not to say that low-budget features are not worth considering, however. Some high-budget features can emanate fumes, too.The thing to consider is how the filmmakers were able to make the most with what they had.Such is the case with THE HERO OF COLOR CITY, a new animated feature that enjoyed a limited run before arriving on video today. It's a warmhearted, entertaining feature with modest pretentions that, like TOY STORY, anthromorphosizes a beloved household plaything: crayons."Well, then it's just TOY STORY with crayons, right?" Yes and no. There were several animated films about living toys before TOY STORY, so to call it a rip-off would be hasty without seeing it.While THE HERO OF COLOR CITY does focus on the familiar theme of "facing your fears" (which also worked nicely in TOY STORY OF TERROR!), COLOR CITY offers a new "box" of characters and a new magical land of colors, in which the bad guys are seeking to add color to themselves at any cost. What the film has going for it is a story line just absorbing enough to sustain a feature (not an easy nor always successful task), well-cast voices -- including (Owen Wilson, Christina Ricci and the always interesting Craig Ferguson as well as voice acting vets like Jess Harnell, Tara Strong and David Kaye), a pleasant musical score and peppy songs. It's does not go for the satiric bite of THE LEGO MOVIE, nor does it make the attempt. This is a nice movie for families and kids. And to quote Rodgers and Hammerstein, "All the rest is talk."When I was a kid, for Christmas my Dad gave me huge box of crayons with activity books. It paled next to the flashier toys and I'll always feel a little bad because I made very little fuss about it. But in the ensuing months, that became the gift that kept on giving long after the other gifts lost their luster. So crack open a 64-pack (with sharpener), open a huge pad of drawing paper and color along.

Annoying to me, but son loves it
My son is autistic and was learning his colors at school so I decided to try this movie out. He was able to learn all of his colors and loves the characters. Did a couple of songs he even likes. With this movie he's actually even wanting to color. I find it absolutely annoying but he does love it so we sit and watch it. I bought him the DVD and purchased the movie for his Kindle as well

My 3 year olds favorite movie.
I am not leaving this review because of the cinematic value this possesses. It is your typical "next door neighbor heroine overcoming her fears" story, with the "bad guy isn't really bad" twist ending. Why I am leaving this review:We first saw it on a streaming service over a year ago. It quickly became my (then 2 year old) daughters favorite movie. I managed to teach her shapes and how to count to 5, but I fully credit this movie with teaching her colors.Last fall it was removed from the streaming service. Her little heart was crushed. So when I found this on Amazon I purchased it for her 3rd birthday. She is ecstatic to have her favorite movie again. It is a clean movie, lots of fun humor, even a fart joke thrown in there. I believe brown and madam pink are a better love story than some other movies.

Repeat movie in our house..
My 5 year old loves this movie so much. She watched it over & over on Netflix for months but then all of a sudden it wasn’t available anymore. So we purchased it on here so she could have it forever. Cute little story, very colorful characters (no pun intended), lots of songs & music. Great for family movie nights!

Good for very young children
This movie is difficult to watch as an adult but my toddler is obsessed. It’s probably the worst animated movie I’ve ever seen. That being said, my little one loves it and will stayed occupied watching it and for that I will say makes this movie worth it. It’s good for very young children (0-4ish) and all the colorful scenes and bad songs will hold their attention.

This movie is on repeat at our house
My son saw this movie at his grandma and grandpa’s house when he was almost two and started asking for “colors” right after so we had to get a copy for home. He asks for it All. The. Time. It’s been four months and I’ve seen this movie probably 20 times. It’s a great movie for toddlers and is enjoyable for adults the first time or two.

Great Movie!
My daughter loves this movie and so does the rest of my family. I so wish they would turn this into a kid's TV show. It has so much potential to keep going with stories, adventures, and of course the great songs. This is part of my teaching regime for my two daughters (21 months & 8 months). It's bright and colorful and has catchy songs. Great way to teach about colors and coloring.

Fun movie
Fun movie for kids! However, they could have left out the name calling (Jerk, ect.) but it does have some learning points to it such as think before acting and not judge others.
