Funny and charming.
Very great Manga and a just as great anime. What more can be said? 5 Stars for a wonderful and hilarious manga.Pretty much copy and paste review for the Vol 7 that I did earlier. I really cant say much else.Only thing I have noticed, is the earlier volumes pages are turning color. I am not sure what may have caused this or what can be done to prevent this. I am pretty sure it is my fault anyway for not storing properly or improper storage conditions.Bottom line, Five Star manga right here!

Buy now before the prices goes up AGAIN
I have bought Lucky Star Vol 1-6 at my local Barnes and Noble at the price of 10.99 each. I am very glad I did so, because on both here and the barnes and noble site they are at least 10 dollars more! I guess I really have to dish out my money to get volumes 7 and 8 :( If you are a Lucky Star fan, try to purchase the volumes while they are at this price, as it may get worse. I think everyone who has seen the show should read the manga, especially if you want to see what happens for these girls! I also think it is a wonderful add to any manga collectors collection, and is also a good read to learn a little more on Japanese culture/ fan culture.

Another solid book in a great series
...But be warned, if you never really liked all of the side-characters that have leaked into the series up to this point, you may not get enough of the original three (er--four, sorry Miyuki) for your liking. The book balances pretty evenly between all of the characters, which means that the main characters get a lot less "screen time" compared to all of the others. I like all of the characters, so it wasn't a big deal to me that the main four weren't featured as prominently, but it is something you should take into consideration if you're on the fence about buying this book.

Disappointing
Though the Lucky Star manga and television has become a pop culture phenomenon both in Japan and the United States, for me the latest installment as of this writing for this manga series was a disappointment.I have no shame whatsoever in announcing proudly that I am a huge fan of the main character, Konata Izumi. If you are unfamiliar with the story, Lucky Star concerns itself with the day to day life of the otaku girl Konata, a young woman dispossessed of any real goals in life save to collect the latest issues of her favorite manga or the latest trendy PC game. The previous volumes of Lucky Star have prominently featured Konata as the leading lady, but in volume number 7 the trend is broken and the book, sadly, falls flat on it's face. The first 3/4 of the book focuses mainly on the character Hiyori Tamura, a first year student and competent manga artist in her own right. Sadly, she is one of two characters involved in Lucky Star that I absolutely despise, and so depriving me of Konata until the rear section of the book has quite ruined this volume for me. For those that are amused by Hiyori's almost mindless muses and awkward bumblings the volume will delight, but for those that don't take any enjoyment from this particular character be aware that the rest of our favorites only rarely show up until the end of the volume.

One of the great modern/moe manga, whitewashed by a whitewashing translator
I am the biggest fan of Lucky Star, and the new volumes of the manga show what Konata and friends have been doing since graduating from high school/going to college (yes, the Lucky Star story continues after the anime).Nevertheless, the English translator for this series whitewashed this series to no end, especially in reference to particular elements of otaku culture, such as idols and lolicon (which apparently, the translator personally despises).Maybe it's okay for some manga to be whitewashed, but for a series as Japan-centric as Lucky Star, this is definitely a no for me. My recommendation: learn Japanese, and read the untouched original.
