MephistoMen's Sam Sandal

I wanted a few new pair of sandals for various purposes and so did something I have never done: ordered 15-18 pair of different Sandals and different sizes. E.g. I had to order smaller for these than initially. However, these were my favorite sandals for all purpose traveling. I just got back from wearing them on a two week trip around Europe and they were the only shoe I brought or wore. With or without socks. From fine restaurants and meetings to touring cities, exploring castles, day hiking in the hills of a ski resort, etc. I even once did some minor rock scrambling while hiking in some mountains. I like that they are light weight but extremely well built. My bottom line is that for a light weight, durable, comfortable sandal, they look good enough to wear whenever you'd normally wear a nice shoe, so they are the ultimate one-shoe for travel in summer months.

I was initially disappointed by the rather less refined appearance of the sandals. I see that these are made in Portugal which, upon further thought, seems appropriate for fisherman sandals. I think the expense and magic are in the sloe/midsole, not in the less refined leather upper. Like other reviewers, I find the buckle very difficult to fasten because the buckle's prong has a very sloppy fit on its axle. This means that you must line things up rather than let the prong find the hole in the strap as most of us do with our pants belts. I now use a shoe horn and treat them like "slip-ons". I own other Mephisto products and am a convert to them for life. I can easily walk 2.7 miles to work in their Marlon dress shoes. In fact, I find them more comfortable to walk in than my made in the USA New Balance 990v4 running shoes.The sandals look great with jeans or shorts and you can walk in them all day long. I would buy again or recommend to a friend. 4 instead of 5 stars is because I feel the these are pushing the upper price limit for a pair of sandals and for the fastening difficulty,

At age 71 I've worn lottsa pairs of sandals. I'm a Beatnik and as such my bag has no room for challenges to my feet. My days of long cross-town jaunts remain my singular method of exercise. These are my 5th pair of Sam's. All previous pair were properly sized at '42'. They fit really well, not at all uncomfortable and hugged my bare feet like fine gloves but...Amazon sent '43' which is not what I ordered. One mile of walking along Seattle's Burke-Gilman Trail and I felt as though I'd somehow worn Clown shoes. Rather than comfort the new Mephisto Sam's feel like one is wearing small canoes. Honestly. For the retail price over $275 all I may say is...don't. Buy from the Source. I am presently awaiting a 'Return' label. I'd much prefer a simple properly-sized replacement but...No! Amazon doesn't hear wll at all. I shall not reccomend Amazon for purchase of these finest of Sandals. I'll only buy from Mephisto. Math is obviously not a strong suite at Amazon. Properly sized the Mephisto Sam's are 5,000 miles plus and worth more than one pays.

I have tried 3times to get the right size and finally succeeded. size 11 us is 44.5 euro. I have serious diabetes and that involves some serious foot issues. Until now Gerswein Merinos and ola kai flip flops were the only shoes I could wear. Flip flops don't work in the desert and these sam sandals allow me to wear socks and still protect my feet. The are almost cloud like, as well as having supple leather tops that go over sensitive toes. I was fortunate enough to receive a pair made in France and I"m quite pleased. They were on amazon wardrobe for 179. Zappos for 279. and at mephisto stores for 288.00. can't figure out why these were so reasonable but, i'll take them. Try a pair you won't be sorry.

I bought the Mephisto Men's sandal because I had a women's version many years ago and loved the comfort of the shoes. Mephisto has stopped making this particular shoe for women. I still have the old pair! The only way I could get the same style shoe was to purchase a man's version of the same shoe. I need wide shoes since I had surgery on my feet. In order to get the wide ball/toebox, I bought the man's version which is automatically wider. I'm lucky that I wear a size 8 women's shoe and so I could get the equivalent of a man's size 6 - the smallest that they make. These are the one sandal/shoe that I can wear all day and not have my feet hurt. Well worth the cost for the shoe.

Although these are pricey, I like them a great deal. As others have noted, the buckle can be a little tricky, but I think you can master it after a couple of tries--fasten them in good lighting so you can see what you're actually doing. Also, they're a little wide on my feet without socks (my feet are narrower than many), but since I have long big toes, I don't think I could have dropped down a size. The quality of the workmanship and materials used is excellent, so I expect them to last a long time.

This is the second pair of Mephisto 'Sam' pseudo- huaraches sandals I own. (The other pair is black, this pair is Brown.)I've been 'around-the-block' with huaraches. I've bought cheap ones, and expensive ones. The cheap ones 'blow-out' at inappropriate moments, leaving you hobbling along. Many of the expensive ones look good, but leave your feet sore.These are an example of the expensive ones. However, they last the longest and are the most comfortable. I also get less 'push-back' about 'inappropriate footwear' when wearing them.

This is an extraordinary pair of sandals. The European design and craftsmanship that went in these sandals is without equal. Mephisto sets a standard that no other shoe company can match. These shoes are crafted in Europe. If I know that I am going to be on my feet and walking most of the day, these are the shoes I select. I can wear these sandals 12-15 hours a day and their comfort is so outstanding that I don't even feel them on my feet. This is the sign of a quality shoe. They are expensive, but the price is well worth the comfort.. Your feet will thank you for these shoes. These sandals make you want to walk further.

I migliori sandali sul mercato,un po' cari ma di elevata qualità,io ne ho un altro paio marroni da più di 5 anni e sono indistruttibili. Consiglio solo un numero in più di quello normalmente utilizzato.

Eccellente fa molto bene ai piedi, ho chiesto un’altro paio sono comodissimi per i piedi, grazie mille...

La qualità Mephisto di sempre, scarpe che si pagano care ma non deludono e durano nel tempo.
