This was a lightning deal. The last thing I really need is another reel but it's difficult to pass up a good deal so I thought I'd try my luck. Cranking the handle felt so smooth with little to no play. Some reels the handle has some wiggle to it, back and forth, where it connects to the main body of the reel, the Akataka didn't have any. Because I reel with my left hand I had to switch it to the other side. Like every other reel I've owned you just unscrew the cap and swap it around. There is a plastic bushing/piece that didn't stay attached to the screw and it took me a few minutes to figure out why I couldn't get the hand into the other side. I ended up putting a small screwdriver into it and took it out, put it back on the screw and re-assembled it.I would like some extra spools for different lines, that would be really great. Overall I really like the reel I received and may get a 2000 for my ultralight rods.

This reel is perfect. I was a little hesitant at first because of the price being so low but after getting it I realized it had features that blew away most of the reels I spent double the money on. The drag is extremely smooth. The finish looks great. It handled very large catfish without a hiccup all day. I’d compare it to one of the penn battle fishing reels. As for the finish. It looks great. Not sure how it will hold up to saltwater so I plan on rinsing it off when I go salt.

I purchased the 4000 model! My first impression was good, it was shipped quickly and boxed very well. Went right out to the lake to try it out, caught a nice bass with it. Smooth reel, no lashing, bell is very smooth. I can say that it compares nicely with my higher end reels. Very impressed with the quality and decent price, win win combo!

Size: 300010 lbs. Braided with 6 lbs. LeadlineRight out of the box everything was perfect, smooth, durable feeling, lots of metal parts. Took it out and it was a whole different experience in a bad way.The gears in the drag adjustment were horrible. The gears would slip even when the drag was super tight. When you turn the drag adjustment knob, one click would adjust it way too much then slipping no matter what the drag was set to.After a few throws, the reel got stiff and wasn't smooth like when I got it out of the box just an hour before.Ended up buying a Penn reel for $80 and now I know why it's better to buy brand named stuff when it comes to reels. Was able to cast further because it was so much smoother, no tangles at all compared to the constant tangling with this reel.Save your money and buy something brand name for $50 and you won't regret it!

For the money, honestly, I was not expecting much. Just a nice emergency reel for salmon/steelhead. This is a terrific reel for the price. Let me stop ya right there, Captain Salty. I know the charter boat guru's will mock me. No, I wouldn't use this reel 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. But, for the casual salmon warrior, this reel is excellent. It handled 2 large, Michigan salmon and a steelie, no problem.

I purchased the model 4000 and compared it side by side with the carbon X 4000 and exceeded my expectations. It will cast a 1/5 oz Ned 50yrs easy and with the drag locked down a 4lb Bass has no chance. I spoiled it with 30# braid and took almost 300yards.. First impressions are everything and this one has impressed.. only reason I would not give it 5 stars it’s is size difference is bulky and not really meant for kids or smaller frame people. I am a big guy at 6’3” so I doesn’t bother me all in all love if so far

A beautiful design, flawless operation...best reel I have ever purchased. Very few white reels out there, ive seen, brown, black, gold, grey and silver...never white...won't spook the steelhead looking up at the grey sky. This may be my favorite reel, I will check out the rest of their wares. Extremely satisfied.

This is a really nice reel for the price,Butter smooth and well balanced. Cast like a dream and the drag is also smooth. I got the 2000 version and is perfectly balanced with my 6’8” spinning rod. I caught couple fish and the reel handle it well. Also the reel looks good too,love the white with gold accents. I spool it with 12lb mono because there is lots of weeds and lilly pads where I fish and still cast very far.If you want a good quality and smooth reel the also looks good and a price the don’t break the bank don’t hesitate get this one.
