Leak Frog LF002 Water Alarm

We went back and forth on getting these as some reviews were great and some were poor. Of other brands and in this price range, this seemed to have the most consistent best reviews so we bought a pair. We have had sewer backup in our basement before and our laundry tub has overflowed once or twice from a clogged drain. We also have a spot near our gas meter that leaks during heavy spring rains, so needless to say we thought we'd try it out. We haven't had water in the basement in over 1 1/2 years but low and behold 2 days after installing this frog by our laundry tub and we heard him going off from our kitchen upstairs. It sounds just like a fire alarm and at night when all is quiet it could definitely be heard from our second story. Anyway, our frog saved us major clean up as I was able to pull out the sock that was clogging the drain (yeah) and clean up in 3 minutes vs hours of mopping, rug drying and fans. The only downside is it takes 3 batteries in each frog and does not have a low/dead battery indicator. But I guess I just test it along with my fire and carbon monoxide detectors :)

I am pretty sure my boyfriend has a strange addiction to these frogs. We had 4, which was more than enough for under the sink and vanities. I have only heard the things go off once, and that was only because I watered a plant and it dripped down from the counter and onto the floor and got to one of his frogs. It was SO loud and freaked me and the cats out. It was like the fire department was coming to our house. I have never seen him run so fast to check his frogs. This was in our last house. Now, we have a house twice as big and sure enough, 4 more frogs came in the mail! He claimed he bought them for coworkers. Nope. He has snuck them in and these things are all over my house now! I am pretty sure we have more than 8 but I am too lazy to gather his army and count them. They work, they are cute, and they make him happy so I give it a 4 star.

I placed this near my sump pump, which had recently failed and flooded my basement. Once I put the new sump pump in, I placed this next to the area where the sump pump is. As I was cleaning dishes in the sink upstairs, the little frog went off, and I had no problem hearing it. I went down into the basement, and sure enough the area around the sump pump was wet, but the water did not come from the sump pump, but from the drain next to the pump. The drain had a clog and I would have never realized it without the frog. I did get the clog snaked and thought all was ok. A couple of days later, I washed a load of clothes, and sitting in my living room, we hear the beep beep beep. Went down to check things, and sure enough, water was coming up through the drain again. I have since had the drain re-snaked.

I have no time to write down all my personal stories about how these little alarms have saved me from what could have been disastrous water problems. I know this because I used to have those problems in the basement for years until I discovered these gadgets...gadgets that I used to envision and wish someone would invent. A reliable product that will alert you of the presence of water (where you don't want it) before damage is done.Every year I buy a few more for presents for people I care about because I feel that these are truly helpful and well-made water alarms...oh, and cute!I just wish the price would stop increasing because my income is decreasing. :)And I hope the quality never deteriorates as it does with so many formerly good products out there.These are wonderful...thanks much to the inventor and producers of the Leak Frog,

The product is really nice & cute, BUT they advertise that it comes with batteries and they never sent with batteries.

I originally bought 6 of these from woot about two years ago and just a few months back one of them saved us as our boiler pressure reduction valve failed and the boiler over-pressure valve started spewing water in the basement, I just bought two more from Amazon for my kids townhouse.

these things saved my basement. Came home to a loud alarm going off, and after finally figuring out it was the leak frog, we were able to stop a laundry room leak before it ruined the whole basement level! SO worth it!

These are quality portable leak detectors, even though they look a little silly! They work great!
