Great Find!
I bought this on a whim not too long ago at Amazons recommendation. They nailed it! I love most everything Simon Posford has produced and this album is so close to his production style I swear it's an elaborate ruse or an alternative creative output for him. Prose Edda isn't the sort of album you can appreciate as background music at work, in your ear buds, the first play through. The more attention you give it, the more awesome it sounds (not unlike something Posfordian!)With respect to YGGDRASIL, I have to say that references to Simon Posford isn't a bad thing and shouldn't be taken as ding against your individuality and/or its creative offering. I can't speak for anyone else reviewing Prose Edda, but this recording is top-notch and Mr. Posford (and co's) releases are some of the shining examples of what's possible in the weird world of music and sound-manipulation. I prefer music in headphones and for anyone that's in the same boat you won't be disappointed. This is an awesome album, well worth the money, and a HUGE and wonderful surprise.

Earthy and Organic
Most of the tracks on here are pretty good. I especially like the first one. Sort of reminds me of Les Stroud (Survivorman)'s music. I like that the instruments are really organic and there's a really earthy tone to it all. The second track, however, I found to be a little repetitive. It was like the same 4 measures (which are good, solid measures) over and over for a large portion of the track. Everything else was spot on though.

Must have cd if you love psybient!
This cd is a great head trip to listen to with all the lights off and a music visualizer going. There are lots of different layers to each song and never ceases to bore the listener throughout the entire journey. This album has a very similar feel to the latest Sphongle offerring or Phutureprimitive, yet manages to form its own distinctive sound through the use of very deep hypnotic baselines, ethnic instruments doodling in the background and mingling with thick and shiny acid synths in the background. My favorite part about the album is the fact that all of the songs flow into each other so it forms a cohesive landscape upon which each song springs from, similar to pretty most of Simon Posford's work.If you like Shpongle or pretty much any type of psychedelic electronic music, you should definitely give this album a buy!

Outstanding
I stumbled onto this album a year or two ago. I consistently come back to it. I enjoy Ott, Shpongle, Aes Dana, FSOL, and numerous other ambient/psy/chill artist and this album is one of my favorite. The production, beats, instrumentation are all top-notch and it's a fun journey. If you've stumbled onto this page, chances are you already like similar music, so fork out the measly $6, or whatever they're charging and enjoy.

An excellent psychedellic album
Prepare for an amazing mental journey when you listen to this album. Yggdrasil stands out in my library as one of my top psychedellic/electronic albums. In constant motion from the beginning to the end, listening to this is like a light speed journey across interdimensional realms. I hope to hear more from Yggdrasil in the future as at this time, this is one of the most promising projects I've come across in this genre.

Exceptional debut album.
This is an exceptional debut album and a great listen for anyone who enjoys the likes of Shpongle, Massive Attack, O.T.T. or any of the Simon Posford projects. I enjoyed every song on this album and found that it has great replay-ability. The sampling, and attention to detail that went into this album puts it easily in my top 5. The album cover/inside art is also extremely well done. This is a class act and I can't wait for their next release.

The World Tree
Yggdrasil in Norse Mythology is the World Tree. That said, this album which doesn't sound norse or anything remotely viking, is probably one of the best psychedelic albums out there. If you like Shpongle, Entheogenic, Slackbaba, etc. then this album is a must have in your collection. Though all tracks are superb, Headfoam Jack seems to stand out for me as it's right up there on the trippy eastern trancy sound scale. A truly good collection that takes you a trip with or without the help of chemicals :D

A MUST Buy!
Let me first say that I stumbled upon this [debut] album by accident. I say that because it proves to me yet againthat some of the best things happen by accident. This is truly no exception.Prose Edda is one of the most interesting albums I have heard in a while. The creativity knows no bounds. All the tracks flow right into each other very well but they are done so in a way where it wouldn't sound weird if you just skipped from one toanother[but you won't want to]. There are only so many albums anyone can likely claim to listen to from start to finish andnot want to skip tracks. This is one of those albums. There is no reason to skip a track because there is no bad music on this album. "Imaginative" and "Creative" is the least I can say for how well this album is put together. Even the album art is interesting.Whether you like Psybient or not you owe it to yourself to give this a chance. Prose Edda is truly worth the money and I would be ecstatic to hear another album from them in the future.

Best Instrumental Album in years.
How did I miss this when it was first released in 2009? Yggdrasil have released a seminal trancey/trippy album that for me hits all the right spots. Prosse Edda sounds new and fresh and anything but like something left over from the genre left over from the 90's. It has it's own direction and falls into the category of beautiful, sometimes scary and provocative intelligent instrumental music that deserves to be heard anywhere, except in the background. It builds, swells and meanders through several different soundscapes on a musical journey that is never predictable, just constantly exciting. Although there is an ambient feel to Prose Edda, in that it musically captures the imagination, there are exciting plundering rhythms and percussive noises that give it welcome space on any decent dance floor. The first track "Don't feed the toadstools" starts like the intro to a hollywood sci-fi movie and segues beautifully into some gorgeous accoustic guitar until the slow beats kick in. There is so much atmosphere in just those first 2 minutes that submission is the only option. There are so many layers of sound; spirals of whooshes that run up and down the spine...and then at about 6 minutes it erupts into the most fabulous baseline melody. Just when you think it can't get any better, the whole thing starts speeding up feeling like you're about to take off or erupt...and then you're taken back into that gorgeous guitar again. This is EPIC!After 11 minutes it's straight into the second track which is a slower affair with distorted voices and then another beautiful melody, this time on the piano. yggdrasil are not affraid of mixing superb melody with funky rhythms and baselines-eack track just builds on the next takes off into another direction.I truely was under the misconception that this kind of music had exhausted itself about a decade ago and that sadly was unlikely to be bettered than the greats of that time. I'm glad to report that after hearing Prosse Edda, it has more than life left in it and has taken off in an even better direction. For me this is a 21st century classic and I recommend to any hippy/trippy festival lover, or anyone who likes their music to fuel and inspire their imagination to buy this album immediately. There's a hole in your record collection that this album most deservedly needs to fill. I'm shocked that there are no other (yet) reviews on Amazon, presumably the great music lovers are purchasing it elsewhere. It's at such a good price, it's worth taking the risk like i did. This is for me the soundtrack to my Summer of 2014. It is truely sheer brilliance.
