As is hopefully obvious from the price, this is costume jewelry. It's very cool costume jewelry and more than worth the price. I purchased it to use an an RPG in-game artifact; after that, it'll be a neat little knickknack to add to my mariner's tool collection (sextant, astrolabe, etc.). The ring made of metal; I'm not sure about the claim in the description that it's plated with sterling silver but it's definitely got copper in it. As you can see from my pictures, the engraved portions are not black. That makes it a bit harder to read the symbols but I actually think it looks nicer.This has 5 rings total. It takes a little practice to get all of them expanded; the most interior ring is the biggest challenge, but be patient and use a pencil or something similar to push it out. Once the ring has expanded into the sphere, everything locks into place very well. The 3 most exterior rings lock almost perfectly to form the main portion of the sphere, and then the 2 internal rings swivel into place (that's the challenging part). When fully expanded, the sphere is very sturdy - I can toss it up in the air, catch it, and all of the rings remain in place. Even though it's sturdy, it's also easy to collapse it back into ring form using only one hand.When flat, this ring is 1 inch in diameter. For me, that's too big to wear comfortably for more than an hour or two, but for other people it might be fine (I never wear large rings so I'm not used to it). My ring size for both ring fingers is 5.5. I purchased a size 7 of this ring and it's definitely small - just slightly larger than my 5.5 size wedding band. Because I bought this for gaming, the size is not an issue for me, but if you actually want to wear this, consider ordering a larger size than your ring size.I'm very happy with this purchase. I'm pretty amazed by the quality, especially given the inexpensive price.

It's so cool and so is the concept, but the item itself isn't comfortable on the finger because it's so wide. And it hurts between your fingers. Cant be worn much plus it opens up between your fingers on it's own. Definitely more of a nick nack then jewelry. Still a amazing concept though.

It is a neat product as a necklace but to thick and bulky as a ring.
