Learn to Read Greek in 5 Days

This was very fun to use and in less than 3 days I can memorize the alphabet and I can pronounce many greek words. Short book but so valuable for me.

This book gives you a head start if you have never studied Greek before. Easy to follow and understand, well written. Conquering the alphabet first then you are able to continue learning.

I was born and raised Greek. I never learned to read and write. I was writing and reading on my first day. I finished the book in 3 days. I plan to add to my vocabulary next. Thank you so much for writing this book. Stephen Kalikakis

The title is a little misleading. This is a short booklet on learning the modern Greek alphabet. Being a phonetic system, this means that once you learn to pronounce each of the 24 letters, you will indeed be able to “read” Greek aloud. This is fundamental and useful in itself, but is in no way a language course or even a phrase book. There are a few useful nouns used as pronunciation examples. They are repeated in different ways to achieve a text length of just over fifty pages. As for the five days, it may take longer to become fully comfortable with the subtleties of digraphs. Like any Greek odyssey, why should it be rushed?

I will advise my Greek isn’t perfect, but there are a couple mistakes in the book. One of them being on page 8 stating κορίτσι is “bird”, but is actually girl. I do love that it helps you understand the letters and shows you how to pronounce each one & in the back it gives you a glossary with the word in Greek spelling - Pronunciation - English. Not bad & it’s nice for quick understanding, but don’t let it be your only tool for learning Greek.

A very good way to pick up some quick information on the Greek alphabet and key words. Once you understand the alphabet, which will only take 15 minutes, you will be able to read any Greek work. It is amazing how many English words have Greek origins. Once you can read Greek words you can figure out a lot of there meaning.

For people like me with little or no knowledge of Greek pronunciation, this little gem of a Kindle book is a great introduction. The Romanized pronunciation guides and the very short descriptions of Greek letters and digraphs are very intuitive for a native speaker of English.

It was driving me crazy whenever I looked at a map of Crete, which we will be visiting, so see only the names in Greek letters. After about a week, I can puzzle out the words. It will take my 68-year-old mind a few more practices to firmly cement some of the letters in my mind, but I'm getting the hang of it. I then went through the glossary and sounded everything out before looking at the translation, and darned if I wasn't getting maybe 80% right! As I said, a few more practices... Thank you!

I learnt Greek over thirty years ago, so I cannot speak as a complete beginner. This is an excellent introduction to the Greek alphabet and explains pronunciation in a very clear and helpful way. It quickly builds confidence and familiarity with the language.There is just one misprint: the first example of the Greek word for 'girl' (koritsi) is wrongly translated as 'bird'.

I liked that it was easy to understand, I'm trying out Rosetta stone and I was having a hard time doing it but with this book it was a great help
