Review: Exactly what I was looking for - Bought myself a new laptop, and had to pick this up since this is the only network port on it. I do have a USB connector for a network cable, but it didn’t work on this laptop. This is what I needed. It is a very distinct looking plug, and it’s not USB-C. If you have a weird-looking spot with the network symbol on it (one side is slightly rounded, rest is straight, and is about the size of USB-C), this is what you need. If not, just get a USB adapter - it’s cheaper anyway. Review: Works with Lenovo X380 Yoga. Make sure you have the right port on your laptop - This adapter works great with the Lenovo X380 Yoga. It connects at 1 Gbps without issue. It was ready to go out of the box, with Windows 10, without any extra drivers. There seems to be a lot of confusion about the type of port that is needed for this dongle. I don't know if it's proprietary to Lenovo, but I've never seen this type of connector before. The owners manual calls this "Mini Ethernet connector" Note: This will not fit any USB port (including USB-C, there's a different adapter for that). This will not fit a mini-display port, nor will it fit a micro HDMI port (even though they are about the same size). The port this will fit has the same logo you see in the picture, which is actually the IT symbol for LAN (three squares connected to a horizontal line) ## Features - Designed For: ThinkPad L380; L380 Yoga; X1 Carbon (2nd Gen) 20A7, 20A8; X1 Carbon (3rd Gen) 20BS, 20BT; X1 Extreme (2nd Gen) 20QV, 20QW; X380 Yoga; ThinkPad Yoga 370 - Small form factor, easy to take - Support PXE boot and vPro for ThinkPad X1 Carbon - Enable Ethernet connection for ThinkPad X1 Carbon ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B00LPRQ5UG | | Best Sellers Rank | #1,489 in Audio & Video Connectors & Adapters | | Brand | Lenovo | | Color | black | | Compatible Devices | Desktop | | Customer Reviews | 4.5 out of 5 stars 845 Reviews | | Data Link Protocol | Ethernet | | Data Transfer Rate | 5 gigabits_per_second | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00888772458034, 04053162512672 | | Hardware Interface | Ethernet | | Item Part Number | 4X90F84315 | | Item Weight | 15 g | | Manufacturer | Lenovo | | Mfr Part Number | 4X90F84315 | | Model Number | 4X90F84315 | | Number of Items | 1 | | UPC | 888772458034 065030855259 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Lenovo - **Color:** black - **Compatible Devices:** Desktop - **Data Link Protocol:** Ethernet - **Data Transfer Rate:** 5 gigabits_per_second - **Global Trade Identification Number:** 00888772458034, 04053162512672 - **Hardware Interface:** Ethernet - **Item Weight:** 15 g - **UPC:** 888772458034 065030855259 - **Unit Count:** 1 Count ## Images ![Lenovo 4X90F84315 ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Cable, Black - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51ww3nssGuL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Will this work with the new 6th X1 Carbon?** A: It will absolutely NOT work. The 6th Gen Carbon X1 requires this: ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Adapter Gen 2 Part Number: 4X90Q84427 Lenovo has redesigned the port, and older adapters will not fit. Unfortunately, Lenovo does not have them in stock, and other sites, namely CDW, are price gauging. CDW wants $39.00 for it. Lenovo's list price is $29.99. They don't know when the part will be readily available (and thus readily available on Amazon). They are not sure why there is such shortage of these adapters. It's probably due to how new the X1 Carbon Gen 6 is. **Q: How is this better than a standard usb-c ethernet adapter?** A: It is made for the proprietary port on the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon so you would not need to tie up a USB port for the standard USB to ethernet adapter. **Q: Is it compatible with X1 Carbon 5th generation model 2017?** A: Yes, I have used this on a 5th gen - the connector is the same. **Q: will this work on my Carbon X. I had the adapter but lost it...previously i bought the 04X6435. The connectors look the same but I am not sure.** A: This is specifically for Thinkpad X1 Carbon. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exactly what I was looking for *by M***H on December 19, 2020* Bought myself a new laptop, and had to pick this up since this is the only network port on it. Make sure you have the right port on your laptop *by D***P on August 20, 2018* This adapter works great with the Lenovo X380 Yoga. It connects at 1 Gbps without issue. It was ready to go out of the box, with Windows 10, without any extra drivers. There seems to be a lot of confusion about the type of port that is needed for this dongle. Here I come! *by A***R on July 31, 2020* So I recently got Fios Gigabit and I was trying to test it on a bunch of other USB (both A&C) 3.0 Ethernet adapters. None of my laptops were ever able to show true gigabit speeds with those adapters. So I suspected it was the either the NIC or the drivers causing the reduced speeds (450 Mbps) since my WiFi (Synology) put out 550~600 Mbps on AC wifi, but I couldn't be sure until I got this adapter. I was so happy to see that my laptop was able to pull almost 940 Mbps with Ookla (speedtest.net) and 1 Gbps on Fast.com. A side note: I've noticed a bunch of negative reviews about this product from people trying to plug it into various ports it's not intended for. I attached the icon the port has as well as a picture of the port. I hope it helps clear up the confusion. I used it on my Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 1. ## Frequently Bought Together - Lenovo 4X90F84315 ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Cable, Black - Lenovo ThinkPad USB3.0 to Ethernet Adapter --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.be/products/13589748-lenovo-4x90f84315-thinkpad-ethernet-extension-cable-black](https://www.desertcart.be/products/13589748-lenovo-4x90f84315-thinkpad-ethernet-extension-cable-black) --- *Product available on Desertcart Belgium* *Store origin: BE* *Last updated: 2026-10-11*
