Finally!
I was introduced to the Pingvin Salt Pastiller about 5 years ago in Miami when I met some Swedish tourists who had purchased them at the Duty Free shop on their way out of the country. I was in love. This is the greatest liquorice on the planet. I don't know why I even qualified that. It's the greatest candy on the planet. According to my Swedish friends, Swedish Duty Free shops were the ONLY place to buy this treasure. Thus, as an American I've been mostly deprived of it over the past five years. I've scoured the internet over and over again, hoping someone would start carrying it, but each time I found the same thing . . . fellow non-Swedes in the same position as me--unable to get a hold of the greatest candy on earth.Until now. I saw this product for sale here. It's not in the traditional Pingvin Salt Pastiller packaging (the pill container--I added a photo), but it looked like it might be the same stuff. Well, I took a chance on it--ordered 3 bags to minimize the sting of shipping--and ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner. This is the real deal. The packaging is different, but the content is the same. Now that I'm sure, my next order will be for more like 10 or 20 bags. Get it while it's available. Who knows when this seller will close up shop?Note: If you've never had salt liquorice before, be warned that it is a VERY strong liquorice and it's very salty. Many non-Scandinavians are repulsed by it. I initially thought it was pretty revolting. But my repulsion very quickly became an addiction. It's an acquired taste, but one that I acquired surprisingly quickly. And now nothing else comes close.

or whatever it is they use to make them taste like a diaper pail
These pastilles are hard to find outside of Scandanavian and European airports. I searched and found a source for the 10oz plastic jars, but re--ordering those is always iffy so I depend on these 100g bags. I am a big supporter of the BLM movement (Black Licorice Matters) and these are my favorites. They have just the right amount of ammonium chloride, or whatever it is they use to make them taste like a diaper pail. Yummmmm.

... child while visiting family in Sweden and fell in love with its salty and chewy texture
I first tried this licorice as a child while visiting family in Sweden and fell in love with its salty and chewy texture. It's my dad's absolute favorite licorice but its nearly impossible to find outside of Sweden. The last time we got our hands on some was when my cousin came to the US from Sweden and we begged him to bring us some pingvin salz pastiller (which typically comes in a plastic container). Of course it didn't last long, and that was nearly 10 years ago. Yes, it's been 10 years since we've last had them...a rough 10 years. Ive tried other brands of hard salty licorice and while some are pretty good, they're just not the same. When I found the pingvin salz pastiller on amazing I nearly lost my s*** and immediately ordered 12 bags (which was the remaining stock). I can't wait to see my dads expression when I give it to him on Father's Day!

NOT sweet, chewy rubbish.
We first found this confection when travelling in Iceland. They have an affection for things licorice there (their signature "Black Death" aquavit has a licorice flavor, also really good). This is not your gooey, sweet, chewy, coloured rubbish. There is so much flavor in one pastille, it's unbelievable. It is an acquired taste and salty/tangy, not sweet. I'm a sucker, not a chewer and three pastilles at the end of the evening is a wonderful palate pleaser. Try it, you'll either love it or hate it based on a survey of friends. You know which side of the opinion poll I belong.

An aquired taste
I always buy these when my travels get me to Scandinavian airports ... and I never seem to buy enough. These are for adults. Not candy for children. They are salty, not sweet. Very salty! If you are looking for slightly less sweet licorice, look for Katjes (red or green bags).

Licorice from Denmark
Yes, this is the candy I use to get from Europe. It has that same flavor of anise and a certain amount of salt, you will never forget. The speed in which t arrived was right on. I will definitely be buying more, Harbo has a great selection from around the world!!

Good hard salty licorice
It is very good if you like salty hard licorice. I think I like licorice with a bit softer of a texture (you can't really chew this you have to suck on it). But I still liked it and I will probably buy it again.
