DEWALT DWV010 HEPA Dust Extractor with Automatic Filter Cleaning, 8-Gallon

I've used this for 2-1/2 years now, and really love it. It's great for lead dust and plaster dust -- a necessity in this old house -- and when it's not doing that, it can be used as a dust extractor in the shop. Positives: Very effective self-cleaning HEPA filter, rated for lead dust extraction. The self cleaning is just great with plaster dust, I haven't had a clog yet. It's light weight and easy to carry despite its bulk. Suction isn't the highest because of the HEPA filter -- you're going to get more from a standard shop vac, but this has a different purpose, no need for a cyclonic extractor or such when you use it for dust extraction. If you just want a shop vac, get a shop vac! The automatic run feature works well. And it's much less expensive than comparable units, or at least it was when I bought it. Negatives: Don't be fooled by the bargain price, the tool set is ridiculously expensive. It's still a bargain, but less so. DeWalt sells a wide range of hose adapters, which is a plus, but doesn't make it easy to figure out which ones you need -- why can't the industry standardize this stuff? It's really noisy, with a high pitched squeal -- use ear plugs, not strictly necessary but more comfortable. Stowing the hose -- it wraps around the unit and is secured by elastic -- is a bit of a bear, and I end up taking it off and carrying it separately. The hose accessories (but not the hose and the adapter that goes on it) are friction fit and tend to fall apart while you're using them. These quibbles aside, it does exactly what it should, and for that reason and its bargain price, I'm giving it five stars. A smarter person than I will find the right kind of adapter and use conventional shop vac accessories rather than buying their overpriced wand and brush kit.

I'm not sure why people say that this thing doesn't have good suction. This thing is as good as I could hope for without a 4" dust collector system. I use this with my DeWalt 12" sliding compound miter saw, DeWalt table saw, and a Milwaukee 5" random orbital palm sander (requires a rubber fernco to connect). The suction is best on the sander; leaving only a small trace of dust that settles on the work surface with no visible airborne dust and my nostrils are clean at the end of the day, even without a dust mask. The suction is sufficient for the table saw and miter saw, but tool function and design causes some dust to not be collected. I've worked in a professional shop with a powerful cyclone system, and this DeWalt system performs just as well. My only complaint is that automatic start only works if you plug the power tool into the dust collector. Well, the vacuum and both of my DeWalt saws are rated at 15 amps, which means that I constantly trip breakers when I plug the saw into the vacuum to use the auto start feature. I have to run the vacuum and the saw off of different outlets attached to different breakers. There is a switch to manually turn on the vacuum, but a remote or something would be nice considering the high draw of these tools. Lastly, I had a ton of trouble knowing which adapters were required to attach this DeWalt vacuum to DeWalt tools. Just to help some other people out, the 2-1/4" adapter fits inside of the 2-1/2" table saw dust port, the twist lock built into the end of the vacuum hose fits right onto the dust port on the miter saw, and I used the 35mm angled adapter with a rubber fernco to attach to my Milwaukee 5" random orbit sander.

I should’ve bought this years ago. If your tool has a small dust port, you need a dust extractor (not a shop vac) and this more than fills the bill for a hobbyist woodworker like myself. The included DWV9000 hose adapter hooks up directly to my DeWalt RO sander. The DWV 9120 or 9130 or 9140 will provide connections to your other tools (router table, track saw, stationary sander, dominoe, miter saw). It’s not overly loud but you’re using it with a power tool so why would you not already be using hearing protection? The option to plug the tool into the machine for auto start stop is convenient. I chose to use mine with the filter bags DWV9402. As an aside, to maximize you miter saw dust collection, go to ShopNation and check out products for your saw (I am not affiliated, just a happy customer)

Its a decent dust extractor. I bought it to replace my Dustless Technologies dust extractor that died. Pro's...1) The dual filters clean themselves. 2) If you don't want to use a vacuum bag, you don't have to. I always do, we use it most often for catching plaster dust. If I was only using it for saw dust, I might not waste money on the bags. 3) It has a tool activated port. When I use it with corded tools, this is a great feature. Alas, most of my tools ae cordless now, so I only use this feature with my large miter saw, table saw and planer. 4) If all your tools are DeWalt, it has a nice quick connect on the hose. What I don't like...1) It is very heavy empty, and more so full. 2) Only the front wheels turn, the back are fixed. This seems to cause confusion for one of my employees. 3) The hose has a proprietary connection, and it is very stiff and unwieldly. When I use it with the DeWalt cordless drywall sander, it make the sander feel heavier because the hose works against your movements. 4) The suction isnt as powerful as a shop vac, so even with the DeWalt brand vacuum attachment (sold separately of course), we often need to either bring a shop vac as well or pre-sweep, vacuum and then mop behind this machine. The Dustless Technolgies machine had a lot more suction power.

It’s sucks by that I mean, it has strong power

I'm working on refinishing the wood work of a 110 year old craftsman. I stripped all the paint (took 2 months) and started to sand the wood. I've never sanded this much wood before and the small dust collection bags on the various sander were just not cutting it. I sanded for 2 days without a dust extractor. I swept a small bucket worth of fine saw dust off the floor. Even with my 3M mask, the saw dust was a problem. I was initially hesitant to purchase this. It was kinda expensive and I wasn't sure it was gonna do the job. Well, I ended up buying it and needless the say, I'm very happy with it. Even with the felt bag installed, it collects much better than I expected. Now when I sweep up after I sand, there is only just the tiniest amount of saw dust. The room is breathable the whole time. It's not too loud, but I still recommend wear hearing protection. Pros: 1. Very portable 2. Not too loud 3. Suck up 99% of the dust Cons: 1. The cable management on this model is clumsy

vacuum works fine, but the hose cracked after a few months. Dewalt REFUSES to send me a new hose, says I need to mail the whole thing back to a 'service center'... I need to use the tool, plus that would be cost prohibitive... AVOID this brand, warranty is useless.

I use this connected to my DWS520 track saw, DWS780 miter saw, & DWS745 table saw. It's not perfect, but does a good job of catching most of the saw dust at the source. I also bought the DWV9170 to connect a 1.25" ShopVac wand & vacuum the floor once the job is done. You plug the tool into power on the vac & then when you start the tool, the vac kicks in. It also runs for 10-15 seconds after the tool is off to clear the hose. It also has 2 filters & every 45 seconds or so it switches from one to the other to blow the other out so the filters don't get clogged. It's a bit of an investment, but I think it's worth it. I wish the hose had a better storage system, but it does have an elastic strap to hold it to the vac after you wrap it around a few times. Comes with a quick connect end that snaps onto the adapters or saws with a twist.

Ça change réellement la donne. Avant, je branchais ma sableuse sur un aspirateur d'atelier type shopvac et avec ceci, je ne porte même plus de masque pour sabler (je devrais sûrement mais bon..) Je sable dans la maison et ça ne fait pratiquement pas de poussière. C'est vraiment "next level"! J'adore la fonctionnalité qui fait que l'aspirateur part quand je démarre ma sableuse et arrête quelques secondes apres que je l'éteinds

Je l'utilise comme dépoussiéreur dans mon atelier depuis environ 6 mois et il garde sa puissance égale tout le temps contrairement à mon ancien aspirateur d'atelier. Il est très efficace. Je le trouvais un peu cher mais je n'ai finalement pas de regret, il m'en donne pour mon argent.

I can use my Dewalt concrete grinder/finisher with this vac indoors! the quick connect works with all my tools and the none Dewalt tools I have usually work with the adapter that comes with this vac, the shudder feature (Dewalt calls it something, cant remember) for auto cleaning the filters is great, I can use this vac for hours and not have to open it up and clean the filters.

I use this in my home foot care business. I hooked up the loc-line articulating hose component to the shop vac hose. The HEPA filter is perfect for picking up the fine dust particles in foot care. It’s pretty loud but it does the job with keeping my studio dust free. Highly recommend.

It is much like a Shop Vac with HEPA filters. The universal connector worked well with my De Walt angle grinder shroud but I bought a number of other connectors so I could attach the dust extractor to other power tools, my De Walt random orbital sander in particular. These connectors don't fit well with either the universal connector (which is attached to the extractor's hose) nor my orbital sander. Indeed I have to use duct tape to achieve a proper seal with the universal connector and the orbital sander. This is aggravating but at least it works. I have a Shop Vac with fine filter bags and a HEPA filter that fits my orbital sander well without resorting to duct tape. The extractor's capacity is limited. Expect to have to change the filter bags frequently. I find that I have to check the bags regularly to see if they are full. This means removing the top of the extractor and looking into the tub. The first time I used it I waited for the machine to stop sucking up dust before I checked the bags and filters (there are two HEPA filters). When I checked I found that the bag was torn, the tub was filled with (concrete) dust and the filters where completely clogged. Luckily the filters can be cleaned with tap water but I had to wait a long time for them to dry. Buy lots of bags and have a roll of duct tape handy. I saw no evidence that the dust extractor system through dust up into the air. In other words I saw no evidence that it doesn't work. I have a powerful negative air machine with a HEPA filter running constantly so if the De Walt dust extractor is leaking some dust into the air my negative air machine captures it. I have not run the dust extractor with out the negative air machine so an absence of fine concrete dust is not proof that the dust extractor captures all the dust.
