Lanner Liner lock

A Sleeper with a Story!
Really enjoy this knife. Initial lockup is about 35%, and centering is perfect, great sharpness on the D2 blade, running on bronze washers, feel in the hand is good, weight is fine. Overall, an excellent knife. Pivot screw is T8, body screws and pocket clip screws, pocket clip can easily be switched from right to left hand tip up carry, all use T6s.The top of the blade has some useful jimping and a front choil so you can move up on the knife. The G10 is textured and you can feel it but not overly rough in my opinion. The center of the handle swells out so the handle is not neutral, I have large to extra-large hands and I can get all four fingers on the handle in all grips, but I am hanging on the end of the handle for some of them. As a whole, the knife has a very tactical, hard use, feel to me. Not a fidget flipper type of knife, but a user…In disassembly, after you open the pivot screw, turn the knife over and open the body screws from the other side, then sandwich open the knife. I lost two T6s trying to open the knife from the same side as the pivot and those body screws don’t move (on the knife I have anyway)So this is the 3.75-inch blade version, think a slightly larger Cut Jack (3.5-inch). The Cut Jack is a little thinner and wider in the hand. The big issue people have with this knife is the flipping action is not that smooth to begin with. Now after having the Cut Jack, I will say that this knife will get to a smoother action but you will need to flip it a while. It took me several months of flipping the Cut Jack to smooth out the action, after only a few days of flipping the Lanner it was making progress, so give it time, it will get there! This is a liner lock knife and there is only a steel liner running along the length of the knife on one side (recessed inside the handle). This is often a deal breaker for some, but wait, inside the pivot collar on the G10 only side there is a steel collar pad for the washer to run on (there is also a steel insert for where you would switch the pocket clip over to). This insert should put your mind to rest if that was an issue for you.So why is this a sleeper and what is the story for this knife? From my perspective, this knife came out when there was a flood of similar knives on the market and never really got picked up by anyone or received the hype it deserved. SO the story is one of timing. You can have a great product, but if the timing is not right it will not matter. When I carry this knife I will be reminded of the importance of timing in life and all we do…Now I recently bought a Dremel so you probably know what I am going to say...I did not want to wait for the knife to wear in, so I sanded off the blade coating on the blade around the pivot hole on both sides, and then put in slightly larger Teflon washers. Knife centering is still perfect, lock up is solid and it flips nicely now without the wait. I then sanded down the G10 on one side a little to get more access to the liner lock bar. Very happy with the knife now. Will carry with confidence. There are a lot of great knives out there at around this price point, it is great to have choices. This knife is certainly one of those choices! Have fun!
