These Magnifiers was just what I was needing for reading a lot of different things in my life, Especially, my Bible. I wish all these places that make books of any kind what large print really is! (It's not a 12 or 14 pt font! After 5 Strokes, my vision is very impaired, but I do not let them stop me. I have to have at least a 16 pt font! I just bought a New Bible that said was Large Print, and looked so in the Pictures posted, NOT! So that is the reason for new Magnifiers! I love the Pocket Magnifiers too that I can carry in my purse. Thank you so much for your excellent Products! God Bless!

Magnifies but reduces contrast
Likes: Magnifies image, lightweightCons: makes the contrast lower, and the image is a rather fuzzy, but readable. Like most fresnel lenses, it only works well in the center. The outer third is pretty useless, but the outer areas of fresnels are only good on the more expensive ones that use a different plastic.These have too much optical distortion for starting fires.I plan to keep this set but won't buy more.

Not what I though it was
I had no illusions that you'd be able to lay this against a page in a book and get a magnified view. I don't see how other reviewers would assume that's possible. All lenses require a focal length longer than that. You have have to hold it a few inches above your target to get any magnification.That's not where the problems with this lens begins though. You cannot hold it above a page/image without the plastic flexing which makes the magnified image distorted and hard to read. This gets even worse when you try to hold it with one hand. I simply couldn't find a large enough flat spot in the lens to read more than 6 or 7 words w/out having to move the lens around to find a new flat spot over the print. It slowed my reading down to 1st grade level.If you do manage to get the plastic sheet flat enough to read with, your vision is still impaired by the pattern of concentric ridges/grooves etched on the plastic. It's called Fresnel grooves and it's the only way to get 3X magnification on such thin plastic. This is literally the same technology they used in lighthouses to shine the light farther. It works okay for keeping ships away from the shore and for small business card sized lenses, but the pattern is distracting on such a large sheet of thin plastic reading by.
