Lock Alarm 8-ft Multi-Purpose Cable Lock with Built-in Alarm

I purchased two of these to secure adult trikes (very popular with seniors, and thieves). All said this is terrific for this application, may order more for securing outdoor accessories around my camper. The description don't clearly indicate, but there are two mounting brackets included, one for mount to flat surfaces, and one for tubular items. The tubular is almost for one specific size, I got lucky in finding a spot where the frame thinned out at the bend where it would just saddle it, using longer screws than supplied. I suspect the size is correct for a "conventional" bike frame (whatever that is). The inside of the U is reinforced with metal, but the "dog" on the lock is plastic, go figure, I guess since it is alarm protected anyway it don't matter if the lock portion fails. Just installed these, will see how they hold up over time. The Warning decal is factory affixed, so if you need to mount it "upside down" (to put cable retainer at top) the label is wrong. The keys are an odd blank style, however the manufacturer offers a registration and key purchase service

I actually had this for a year before I ever opened it to use it. What a mistake. This is a good idea that was exacuted very poorly. I did not even get to actually use it for anything before it broke. I would give this no stars if they would let me. I opened the package and read the directions. Then I tried it out by pluging in the cable into the locking hole and locking it with the key , then I removed the key. I thought ok its a little on the cheap side quility wise but I will give it a try. Then I tried to unlock the cable with the key. No dice the key would not go back ito the lock , no matter how I tried it. Finally I thought I had it and tried to turn the key, well I broke the lock cylinder with my hand trying to get the key to turn. The alarm did not go off yet , then I tried to get it to unlock with a screw driver, no dice. Then I held it in one hand and took the other hand and literally pulled the plastic enclosure apart. The alarm finaly started to sound for a couple of seconds untill I pulled the cable out. I literally tore this thing apart with my bare hands. Do not buy this piece of crap if you value your money like I do. This thing is of no use at all. If you did acually get it to work like you want it to it is just false security to think someone could not steel whatever you are trying to protect. The cable is good quality, the rest is junk.

Alarm is loud, would be easy to defeat by shorting out the wire cable, good deterrent but wouldn't use it to lock up something extremely valuable.

I recently bought one of these in hopes of deterring a bike thief. One crack with a hammer to expose the battery and a cut of the wire, my bike was gone.

I was happy to find this to secure my new grill, as the description sounded exactly what I wanted. Good concept but the design sucks. When I opened it I was immediately concerned. The unit is not sealed at all for the elements. There is a plastic housing, but there are no seals. The battery and the electronics can easily get wet or damp. I decided to try it anyway, as the grill cover would sheild it from direct rain. Bad idea. After 3 weeks of use, I recieved a frantic call at work, from my wife, that the alarm was going off for no reason. She had to find the key, ulock the unit and remove the battery.
