Nice upgrade for a old laptop - Dell XPS Gen2 !
Great HDD for older Dell XPS gen 2 --- loaded Windows 7 fine---works well! But I needed to grind the adapter down a bit to so the drive wouldn't stick out about 1/16"... So, with sanding the laptop adapter its perfect(The adapter came out with the HDD and detaches from the pins on the hdd and is plastic, I rubbed it on some 220 grit sand paper -sands down in a few passes! )Probably some laptops don't have this length issue, or need an adapter that needs sanding?

Great value. Works great
Had both Samsung and Seagate identification on it. Name brand product without the retail packaging. Great value. Works great.

Head movement issues after only 4 months of light use
Buying a hard drive these days is always a crap shoot it seems. Unfortunately this one wasn't a winner. The drive developed head movement issues after only four months of light use. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Bummer.

Seemed fine, but flawed.
The drive (actually in my case a Samsung when I queried it) arrived fine, and it worked, more-or-less. But it caused issues on the IDE chain, and I was able to verify that by testing with a few other drives. I finally gave up and RMA'd it. I could've replaced it, but decided to steer clear and go for a smaller drive. (Actually an SSD.)

New, worked great for my application.
No problems, had to upgrade an old Win XP laptop 60gb HD used for PLC programming that was out of space and add dual boot to Win7 Pro for some of the newer PLC programming software. I wasn't even sure they were still making the IDE drives anymore.

Works, but beware
As pointed out by a few others, the device seems generic. It is oddly labelled "SeralATA", though it is obviously not. It is an off-brand, though it identifies itself as a Samsung in my system.File copy and booting went fine, but I ran into to issues when I reconnected my optical drive. The optical drive is not seen by my system if this hard drive is on the chain. Going back to the original hard drive shows nothing is wrong with the system or the optical drive.
