Yet Another Winner From Kaipa
I have been a Kaipa fan for years, but it has been their last three albums which have raised them in my mind to the level of prog royalty. The harmonies, the idealism of the lyrics, the sheer innocent joy in the vocals, and the virtuosity of the musicians combine to make Kaipa one of the finest prog bands on the scene today. When this CD arrived, I was eager to throw it into my CD player as I went on a long road trip. The first time through I thought that it was fairly decent but not extraordinary. But with each additional play, I found more and more to like. Which is the best song? The whole album is so good, that is hard to choose because there is something about each that will bring you back to listen repeatedly. I was initially most attracted to World of the Void and Unique When We Fall. But A Map of Your Secret World, Screwed-Upness and A Sky Full of Painters each offer tremendous listening beyond the vocals. The title cut is the only instrumental and the final cut, Without Time-Beyond Time the mellowest. While it is true that the vocals may require some getting used to for newcomers to the Kaipa sound, Aleena Gibson has proven her value time and again as vocal partner of Patrik Lundstrom and as one who adds her own delightful touch to each song.Sattyg is nicely packaged in digipak form and is accompanied by a handsome booklet containing pictures, artwork, lyrics, and pertinent album information. If you enjoy prog rock, this is an indispensable addition to your music collection. Don't pass this by!

I have already reviewed the most recent Kaipa release but I wish to continue singing their praises once again. I chose this album simply because it was playing. Absolute statement: all Kaipa CDs are magnificent! Being a guitarist myself I feel compelled to comment on the abilities of Per Nilsson. He has the fluidity of Holdsworth, technical prowess of Satriani with a bit of Gary Moore and Steve Lucather for good measure. Also he has the improv ability of a Santana. What keeps this man out of the pages of guitar magazines is one of life's musical mysteries. He crafts each solo to fit each particular song in a unique way. I really look forward to his solos in each song. The vocals of Patrik Lundstrom and Aleena Gibson give Kaipa it's unique flavor. Too many artists get stuck in a rut, each album sounding like the previous, e.g. Rush. (Not to ruffle any feathers here: I love Rush and actually got to know Alex and Geddy when I worked for Showco in Dallas) In conclusion I wish to express my gratitude to bands like Kaipa who produce such positive progressive music in this ever-darkening world.

Swedish Prog Rock at it's Finest!
This newest release from Swede Prog Rockers will make you want to stand up and do a Celtic Jig! Seriously though, I have purchased quite a few Prog Rock CD's lately and this one is the tops! I did the pre-order and all of the sudden it was not available. Thanks to some Amazon Market place third party sellers, I know have my own copy to play day in and day out. Giddy I am? Yes! The music just flows and takes you away to another place and time. Plenty of soothing tempos that all of the sudden have significant time changes and two voices to explain the tale. Aleena has a one of a kind unique voice and I find it refreshing to have a female vocalist in prog music, plus she is one nice looking lady to boot!Long tracks and plenty of prog rock medieval celtic jazz oriented songs played to perfection by these people to make you feel good that somewhere in this vast universe quality still matters! Now hurry and buy it before it is gone......

Tiramisu, not plain vanilla
As a prog rock fan raised on Jethro Tull and Genesis, I've been impressed by music from Sweden. Kaipa's 4th album with the current line-up, Sattyg, surpass all expectations on many levels.Firstly, the incredible musicianship from drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and even violin are stunning. Musically complex like Gentle Giant, these folks know how to play.Secondly, the vocals by Aleena and Patrick are passionate and real. Not slick and polished, but authentic and heartfelt.Thirdly, the melodies and songs are well crafted and moving with elements of Styx and Yes.Finally, the lyrics are poetic and profound in a cosmic and proggy way that makes you think. When you combine all of this you get a rich aural pleasure that delights after many listens. This complex work of art is not the plain vanilla music many people prefer. It is a delicious and many layered treasure. Enjoy!

Excellet album solid and original just need a new keyboard sound or guitar timbre thrown in for good measure
What a fantastic little c.d this is I put this on with a rough idea what to expect as I have most of their other albums but this was a different approach to their usual sound which gave it a new quality this time the band gave alot of attention to the vocals. I felt that alot of work went in to the vocal harmonies and vocal performances in particular they felt higher in the mix not by much but enough to be more noticeable. That said the drums are energetic and fun as perusual there are plenty of keyboard solos and guitar solos and big bass.PErhaps the only thing I would suggest to the band is to try to change up the Keyboard sounds they tend to use the same sounds all the time and they happen to be the same sounds as every other band that plays this kind of music this makes it a little bit stale they would certainly standout of they changed even just that. LOOK at HAken admittedly they are a heavier band but still look what they do with the keyboard

If you like the changing of moods within a song
It took 2 listens of this much awaited Kaipa release, and then I was hooked. As ever it has the prog mix of rock, folk, classical and blues..... yes and probably much more besides. Did I mention Jazz.....? Oh yes in there too. I have questioned the lyrical content on some of their previous CD's but this time they've got it. If you like the changing of moods within a song, this CD is one to add to your collection :-) My mum bought me this CD for Christmas, bless, and I've been playing it ever since.

Great Scandinavian Prog
Great Scandinavian guitar, prog rock enhanced by a fine female rock vocals. This is not, however, a so-called female-fronted band! This is perfect, largely upbeat 70s progressive fare with plenty of air guitar opportunities. Incidentally, if any similarities, however small, are noticed between Kaipa and The Flower Kings, it could be due to the involvement of guitar/vocalist Roine Stolt who joined the former before forming the latter.

A bit like its predecessor
A bit like its predecessor, but nevertheless an excellent album. Aleena's voice in song nº 2 is especially moving.
