The WeatherHawk SM-28 SkyMaster Hand-Held Weather Meter is a great asset to any nature or birdwatcher, or any outdoors enthusiast WeatherHawk SM-28 SkyMaster Hand-Held Weather Meter, Yellow  who enjoys knowing what the actual weather is doing outdoors. To know the temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed, dew point, heat index and wind chill are very important. The barometer, dew point and humidity can indicate bad weather and give outdoors folks advanced warning when needed.One elemental indicator that is lacking in this WeatherHawk SM-28 Skymaster hand-held weather meter is the ability to know the wind direction. Yes, one could easily take some dirt and sift it thru the hand to see the wind direction but not everyone is around dirt or grass. The wind direction feature would be an added bonus to an already great hand-held weather instrument.Also, WeatherHawk already calibrated the voltage settings for my hand-held weather instrument. got this to help out with my Skywarn observations for the NWS. certainly does what i need it to. i read the issue about no compass, but i just got a small liquid filled compass and velcro'd it to the back of the SM-28, then a case to fit it in, and all is good. readings are more than accurate enough. and the barometric change alarm is great. where i live, winter temps get to -30 on occasion so i'm careful to keep it close to my body when out and about. low temp range only goes to 32F. overall , i am very pleased with the SM-28. for the money, i don't think it can be beat with what it offers.

Everything seems to work fine except the altimeter. It is all over the place. The altimeter functions off the air pressure as gauged by the barometer which can change without moving. I don't understand how you can get an accurate elevation reading when the weather is changing. The barometer needs to be calibrated to a known pressure at a single elevation and used only at that elevation to get an accurate pressure reading. It is easy to calibrate. However, I didn't really buy it for the altimeter, the other functions seem to work well and this is a fun hand-held weather tool for the amatuer weather person.

OK for wind. Temperature is iffy - takes a long time to adjust, and then less than stellar accuracy.Installed battery lasted 5 hours.I don't have a competing product to compare this to. Still, the temp and barometric readings don't square up with my analog devices.The readings all fluctuate to the point of flickering.Maybe for $120 I should have stuck to fewer expectations/features.

This is a great product for anyone who needs accurate weather readings. I bougt it for Long Range Shooting and works great. Considering its price, I think it would be impossible to get anything that can match it. It costs like half the price of other brands.

This is the second one that I have owned. I like how many different measurements that you can take in one hand-held device. It holds its accuracy over years of use.

THIS WEATHER STATION MIGHT BE CLOSE ENOUGH FOR WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE WANTING IT FOR BUT IT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO USE FOR SHOOTING. I GOT THIS METER AND WAS COMPARING IT SIDE BY SIDE WITH MY BUDDY'S KESTREL, THE WIND READING WAS BETWEEN 0-5 MPH FAST. SOMETIMES IT WAS RIGHT BUT MOSTLY IT READ FAST. ALSO THE TEMPERATURE WAS OFF BY ABOUT 7 DEGREES. THE OTHER MEASUREMENTS WERE CLOSE ENOUGH (MOSTLY EXACTLY THE SAME) BUT IT WAS BAD ENOUGH THAT I SENT IT BACK AND ORDERED A MORE EXPENSIVE KESTREL UNIT.
